Job description

POSITION NOT YET FUNDED. NAVANTI IS CURRENTLY ACCEPTING RESUMES FROM CANDIDATES FOR ANTICIPATED SECURITY AND STABILIZATION WORK.

Location: Arlington, VA (Crystal City) or remote

Core Responsibilities:

Navanti has an anticipated requirement for an entry level open-source researcher to work with our multidisciplinary team who can use his/her knowledge of economics, politics/government, social issues, and cultural nuances across the world. The researcher should have knowledge and/or experience in one or more global regions including, but not limited to: the Americas, the Arabian Peninsula, the Caribbean, Central Asia, East Africa, East Asia, Europe, the Levant, the Maghreb, North Africa, the Pacific, South Africa, and South Asia. The researcher will gather and analyze data pertinent to the media environment, demographics, and security affairs of these various regions and will be responsible for collecting information from open sources, including regional and other non-English news outlets, social media, blogs, academic literature, local contacts, and other sources.

Responsibilities:

  • The researcher will assist in project design, implementation, and report writing for multiple analytical products
  • The researcher will assist in data collection, analysis, and quality control for various analytical focused on market research 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Detail-oriented with an ability to multitask and manage time effectively
  • Ability to follow instructions, meet deadlines, and produce excellent work with minimal supervision
  • 1-5 years of relevant experience
  • Strong writing and editing abilities
  • Strong research skills, particularly using foreign-language media and social media sources
  • Open-source analysis experience in an academic or professional setting
  • Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint; experience using Power BI, PDF editor, and InDesign a plus
  • Literacy in global media landscape
  • Familiarity with the politics, culture, and history of at least one the above-mentioned regions
  • Strong understanding of conflict-affected regions/countries
  • Experience living in, studying, or working on topics related to any of the above-mentioned regions
  • Strong data management and analysis abilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work closely (virtually) with primary sources across the world / maintain strong rapport with individuals across various language/cultural barriers
