About this role
Under general direction, responsible for and performing a variety of complex and technical tasks related to learning technology applications administration, online student support, and user operational duties in support of academic application systems. Serves as the primary contact for resolving faculty and student learning technology issues, including but not limited to Online Learning Management platforms, and related online support systems.
What a day of an Online Technology Specialist looks like:
  • Provides support to faculty and students using Online Learning Management platforms, web portals, instructional technologies, academic media technologies, and related online learning support systems.
  • Maintains, modifies, customizes, upgrades, and troubleshoots assigned academic application systems and technologies to meet user needs and ensure availability and access to various applications and instructional technologies.
  • Maintains online course management system, knowledge base, video repository, technical how-to resources, and other key Online support platforms.
  • Provides assistance to faculty in identifying at-risk online students and provides assistance to these students with additional course orientation, assistance referrals, and other support services.
  • Supports the operation, scheduling, coordination, and use of the TV Production and Podcast Studio for online learning, instructional media, faculty lecture recording, course media development, student media projects, and related academic activities.
  • Facilitates and supports live student technology webinars, course orientations, Canvas walkthroughs, technology readiness sessions, and live question-and-answer support related to online learning technologies.
  • Maintains both professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and pursuing related professional development opportunities.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
  • Associate's degree and four years of related experience; or high school diploma or GED and six years of related experience

Knowledge of:
  • Online Course Management systems (i.e., Canvas or similar)
  • Troubleshooting and resolving issues in browser-based applications and platforms
  • Principles of issue escalation and user support
  • Instructional technologies and best practices in online education
  • Basic HTML and web publishing practices
  • Microsoft Office 365 suite or similar applications

Skilled in:
  • Attention to detail while maintaining effective time and task management
  • Analyzing technical issues and identifying root causes
  • Prioritizing and managing multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Communicating with technical support and working collaboratively on cross-departmental projects
  • Creative thinking and problem solving to explore new technology, processes, and approaches
  • Managing educational tools and systems

Ability to:
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing on a regular basis with internal and external customers, build relationships, manage customer expectations, and take responsibility for a high level of service
  • Interact in a positive manner with diverse populations and varying education levels of students, faculty, staff, and the public
