Position Specific Information (if Applicable):
Overview:
The Occupational Therapist (OT) will support the development of fine motor, visual motor, and gross motor skills as they relate to school performance. Additionally, the OT will provide tools and resources to assess and support the sensory needs of students in the classroom and school environment. The OT may also be involved in facilitating self help skill development to promote independence in all school-based activities.
Responsibilities:
Occupational Therapists at SkyView Academy serve students across all levels (K-12) who require universal, targeted, and intensive intervention.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of occupational strategies to support the development of student access to the learning environment.
  • Incorporate consistent behavior management within the context of the general education and special education classroom,
  • Provide consultation and occupational therapy support for the developmental needs of school-aged children and adolescents.
  • Responsible for assessing and providing research-based intervention to students with a suspected fine-motor, visual-motor, and/or gross-motor skill impairment, as well as students with sensory processing differences.
  • Work collaboratively to design Individual Education Programs (IEP) that implement evidence-based, differentiated, and innovative instruction to support academic growth, positive social relationships, functional communication, and positive behavior for learning to promote educational access.
  • Demonstrate effective case management skills; effective written and oral communication skills; the ability to establish and maintain effective cooperative relationships with school personnel, students, and parents; demonstrated understanding and empathy necessary for working with students and their families; demonstrated ability and desire to function as a team member.
  • Build and maintain strong personal relationships with parents, teachers, students, and community partners

School Wide Alignment:
  • Communicate regularly with the Director of Student Support Services and collaborate with the student support services team regarding student progress and instructional needs
  • Partner with K-12 MTSS teams to add strategies and ideas

Experience and Knowledge:
  • Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Hold a Special Services License through the Colorado Department of Education (CDE).
  • Current certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT),
  • Licensed as an occupational therapist with the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA),

Responsibilities:
--- Provides reports and maintain ongoing records on those students receiving O.T. intervention.
--- Shares information about agencies and services available in the community as appropriate. Collaborate with outside agencies/service providers when relevant.
--- Guides teachers and other involved personnel in observing fine and gross motor, visual-motor, sensory motor, and visual perceptual deficits which may be interfering in the educational process of a student. Serves as a resource to school staff members on these topics and may include increasing staff awareness and in servicing staff members.
--- Documents health related services in Designated Medicaid documentation system for the DCSD School Medicaid Reimbursement Program.
--- Provides direct and indirect O.T. intervention where appropriate in the educational setting.
--- Serves as a member of a multidisciplinary team working in cooperation with parents, other support services, educational staff and administration personnel. Participates in the development of the IEP evaluation, goals and objectives, and accommodations/modifications which are relevant to a child's needs in the educational environment.
--- Performs screenings and evaluations to assist in the identification of physical/motor deficits that may be impacting the child's ability to function in a school environment. Provides information from assessments that will assist the parents and the educational staff in the development of programs for individuals who have identified needs in the motor area.
