Job description

YARD MANAGER – HEAVY EQUIPMENT/AUCTIONS

POSITION SUMMARY

                The Yard Manager is responsible for daily operations, organizing inventory, preparing, presenting, storing, and moving of heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, and attachments for live and online auctions. This role also ensures equipment is accurately inventoried, professionally presented, photographed, and staged to maximize buyer interest while maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient yard. Travel for photographs of equipment would be required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Maintain an organized inventory of equipment, trucks, trailers, attachments, and parts.

·         Maintain cleanliness and organization of the yard, buildings, and storage areas.

·         Maintain accurate equipment locations, especially for auctions and online sales.

·         Operate heavy equipment including excavators, dozers, loaders, forklifts, skid steers, and other machinery as needed.

·         Ensure compliance with all OSHA, DOT and company safety policies.

·         Photograph, etc. equipment for auction and online listings.

·         Conduct routine safety inspections of the yard and equipment.

·         Manage snow removal, debris cleanup, and general property maintenance as needed.

·         Monitor fuel levels, batteries, tire pressures and general readiness of equipment.

·         Report equipment damage, shortages, or safety concerns to management promptly.

·         Assist with loading and unloading equipment for pickups and dropoffs.

·         Track incoming and outgoing inventory.

·         Assist management with inventory audits and asset tracking.

·         Perform other duties as assigned.

AUCTION PREPARATION

·         Inspect equipment for damage or missing components and report finding.

·         Prepare equipment for auctions by ensuring machines are clean, organized, and staged according to auction schedules.

·         Verify serial numbers, VINs, hour meter readings, and equipment specifications.

·         Ensure equipment is available and positioned for preview days and auction events.

·         Stage equipment by auction lot number.

EQUIPMENT PHOTOGRAPHY & LISTINGS

·         Photograph heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, and attachments for online listings, auctions, and marketing materials.

·         Capture high-quality images of:

o   Front, rear, sides, and back views

o   Cab / interior

o   Engine compartment

o   Undercarriage (when practical)

o   Bucket or attachments

o   Hour meter

o   Serial number / VIN plate

o   Tires or tracks

o   Any visible wear or damage

·         Ensure equipment is clean and properly positioned before photography.

·         Verifying the listings accurately represents the condition and configuration of each machine.

·         Upload photographs and descriptions for use on auction platforms.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS

·         Travel is required.

·         Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

·         Frequently lift up to 50 pounds.

·         Climb on and off heavy equipment safely.

·         Walk and stand for extended periods.

·         Bend, kneel, stoop, and climb as required.

·         Ability to operate heavy machinery safely.

·         Primarily outdoor work in varied weather conditions.

·         Exposure to dust, mud, noise, and moving equipment.

·         Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required to meet business needs.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

·         Maintain accurate inventory records.

·         Yard organization and cleanliness.

·         Produce high-quality photographs and accurate equipment documentation.

·         Ensure equipment is auction-ready by scheduled deadlines.

·         Strong attention to detail.

·         Support successful auction events through efficient planning and execution.

·         Willingness to travel.

QUALIFICATIONS

·         3 – 5 years of experience managing heavy equipment, trucking, or construction yard.

·         Experience operating heavy equipment, including excavators, loaders, dozers, forklifts, and skid steers.

·         Mechanical aptitude and knowledge of construction equipment, commercial trucks, and trailers.

·         Strong organizational skills.

·         Basic computer skills.

·         Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred.
