Job description

Position Summary

The Packing Operations Supervisor is responsible for planning and directing the daily run of the packing house in direct coordination with the Sales team. This role translates sales orders and same-day changes into an executable pack plan, keeps Packing House Leads on schedule and accountable, and ensures all product moving through the facility meets company and customer quality standards. The Packing Operations Supervisor serves as the primary link between the sales floor and the packing floor, ensuring the two functions stay aligned throughout the workday.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Run Planning & Sales Coordination

•    Plan and build the daily packing run based on orders, fruit availability, and customer specifications provided by Sales.

•    Serve as the primary point of contact between Sales and the packing floor throughout the shift.

•    Adjust the run in real time in response to order changes, cancellations, rush orders, or fruit condition issues, and communicate impacts back to Sales.

•    Coordinate pack sizes, labels, and box/carton specifications against customer and order requirements.

•    Communicate daily run status, delays, and completion times to Sales, the Operations Manager, and other relevant departments.

Leadership & Crew Management

•    Directly supervise and support Packing House Leads; set clear daily priorities and hold leads accountable for their lines and crews.

•    Set and adjust shift schedules and labor assignments to match the daily run plan and seasonal volume.

•    Train, coach, and develop Leads and packing crews on procedures, standards, and safe work practices.

•    Address performance, attendance, and conduct issues in partnership with Human Resources as needed.

•    Foster clear communication and accountability across shifts and lines.

Quality, Food Safety & Compliance

•    Monitor packed product throughout the shift to ensure conformance to grading, pack, and customer quality specifications.

•    Ensure adherence to food safety, sanitation, and traceability requirements (GMPs, HACCP, USDA/FDA regulations, and customer audit standards).

•    Identify and correct quality or process issues before they affect shipments; escalate significant issues promptly.

•    Support internal and third-party food safety audits and inspections.

Production & Administrative

•    Track and report daily production data: pack-out, throughput, downtime, waste, and labor utilization.

•    Monitor packaging material and supply needs and coordinate replenishment to avoid run delays.

•    Maintain accurate records in company production/scheduling systems.

•    Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and streamline daily operations.

•    Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position directly supervises Packing House Leads and, through them, packing floor crews. Responsibilities include planning and assigning work, training, monitoring performance, and addressing personnel issues in coordination with the Operations Manager and Human Resources.

Qualifications

Required

•    2+ years of experience in a packing house, produce processing, or agricultural production environment.

•    Prior experience supervising or leading a team, ideally in a packing, production, or warehouse setting.

•    Working knowledge of citrus grading, packing standards, and food safety requirements.

•    Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage shifting priorities and last-minute changes.

•    Clear, effective communicator, comfortable coordinating with Sales, Leads, and other departments.

•    Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Excel/Outlook; production or scheduling software a plus).

•    Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Preferred

•    Experience specifically with citrus packing operations.

•    Familiarity with Famous.

•    Forklift certification or willingness to obtain.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

•    Work is performed primarily in a packing house environment, including cold, wet, and noisy conditions.

•    Seasonal peak periods may require early mornings, extended hours, and weekend availability.

•    Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the facility for extended periods.

•    Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.

•    Exposure to moving machinery, forklifts, and varying temperatures.

Compensation & Benefits

This is an exempt, salaried position with an annual pay range of $72,384 to $88,384, depending on experience and qualifications, consistent with California's exempt salary threshold. Medical/dental/vision, vacation, and retirement plan once eligible.
