Job description

The Town of Longmeadow Fire Department seeks applicants for a Non-Civil Service, Full-Time Firefighter / Paramedic.
Applicants with any combination of the following qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:

  • Certified Paramedic
  • Currently enrolled in a Paramedic training program
  • Firefighter 1-2 or firefighting experience/training.
  • Basic EMT with firefighting experience with a desire to pursue Paramedic training. (Educational assistance/support for paramedic training may be available).
Successful candidate must be able to pass an extensive medical examination, background check and a physical agility exam. Applicants must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Within one (1) year of completion of their probation period, all employees shall reside within a sixty (60) minute response time of the Town limits of the Town of Longmeadow, measured in a straight line by an accepted mapping application or software.
  • Service time as a full time Firefighter/EMT and/or Firefighter/Paramedic with a Fire Department may be considered in establishing the starting pay level and vacation time (up to the ten-year step).
  • To be considered for a step above the 2-year step, candidates must have the following qualifications.
    • Employment as a firefighter/officer in a career fire department
    • National Registry/Massachusetts Paramedic
    • Completion of the Massachusetts Career Recruit Program/or equivalent
    • All conditions must be met at the time of application to be considered for equivalent placement on the salary schedule
  • Starting range based on time as a full time Firefighter/EMT or Firefighter/Paramedic is between $70,190.64 and $85,897.24 +holidays, depending on qualifications and service time credit.
