Job description

The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a Day Camp Counselor to join our team.
The YMCA focuses on empowering people in all forms, by improving health and well-being and inspiring action in and across our neighborhoods. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
As a Day Camp Counselor, you will directly supervise campers and assist with planning and implementing daily camp activities for a group of 7-10 campers, including small and large group activities designed to engage campers and create a fun and memorable experience.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, lead and assist group activities, transitions, time fillers, and songs.
  • Assist in specialty camps.
  • Complete group head counts.
  • Provide parent communication through parent communication cards.
  • Complete accident and incident reports when needed.
  • Cleaning and sanitation protocols will be required of all staff.
  • Staff will be responsible for frequent touchpoint cleaning and sanitizing in specific areas.

Qualifications:
  • You are 17 years of age or older.
  • Six months or more of related experience (preferred).
  • Positive attitude and previous experience with children and diverse populations
  • Knowledge and skills in day camp program activities and related equipment set-up, and the ability to instruct participants in age-appropriate techniques.
  • Able and willing to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day, and other online and in-person training as required.

Wage: $17.13 to $18.28 per hour, depending on qualifications
Dates of Employment: June 16th - August 22nd, 2025
Location: YMCA Camp Lake Helena, Port Orchard, WA

Position Summary
