Job description

Summary

The Accounting Manager will lead the Finance department in delivering accurate financial reporting and reliable data to support strategic decision-making.  They will oversee the development and maintenance of records related to income, expenses, assets, liabilities, and capital.  They will reconcile general ledger and bank accounts, and ensure all reports, systems, and practices comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).  Professionalism and teamwork are essential to this position as you will interact and work with other team members throughout the credit union. 

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all core accounting functions, including accounts payable and receivable, budgeting, cash flow, cost management, credit and collections, financial analysis, reporting, general ledger, investments, and tax compliance.
  • Maintain and update departmental policies and procedures that reflect current regulations and ensure consistent application across the team.
  • Reconcile revenue reports, unbilled variances, claims, disbursements, and special projects; prepare daily loan/share balance sheets and cash position assessments.
  • Manage general ledger reconciliation, journal entries, and financial account reviews; lead month-end close and produce monthly financial statements.
  • Ensure all accounting activities comply with GAAP and regulatory requirements, maintaining accurate and timely records.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing accounting team through regular performance evaluations, coaching, and conflict resolution.
  • Streamline accounting workflows by designing and implementing efficient processes.
  • Build and maintain advanced financial analyses and reporting tools to support decision-making.
  • Provide regular updates to management on online accounting activities and departmental performance.
  • Monitor and manage fixed assets and related accounting processes.
  • Conduct specialized accounting studies, analyses, and projects as requested by leadership.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a financial institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field or CPA.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word documents.
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and written in a professional manner.
