Job description

Job Summary

The Nevada Department of Corrections is hiring a Senior Physician for Las Vegas, Ely, or Lovelock. Under administrative direction the position performs professional medical duties and functions, involving general examinations, diagnosis, care and treatment; supervises the medical services team, and performs related work as required. Prescribes medication by using standard pharmacological procedures, in order to facilitate treatment and care of individual offenders. Must be knowledgeable of Nevada Revised Statues applicable to the practice of medicine within Nevada state institutions and facilities. Maintain scheduled clinic hours to provide care to offenders consistent with the hours of operation for the institution. Provide emergency service as needed. Cooperate with the Deputy Attorney General's office. Adherence to ethical principles and sensitivity to a diverse patient population by demonstrating respect compassion, and integrity to the needs of offender patients. Participate in the physician on-call schedule.

Essential Qualifications

A valid license to practice Medicine from the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners at the time of appointment is required; and must be maintained throughout employment without interruption. Graduation from an accredited school of medicine or approved by the Nevada Board of Medical Examiners with one year of internship in an approved hospital and three years of experience in the practice of medicine or an equivalent combination of both; OR completion of an appropriate residency approved by the American Medical Association; OR an equivalent combination substituting each year of resident training for a year of medical practice; OR board eligibility in a medical specialty; OR board certification in a medical specialty.

Job Duties

This is an open competitive recruitment, for all qualified applicants. These are unclassified positions that are appointed by and will serve under the directions of the Medical Director for the Department of Corrections (NDOC).
