What is an oil gas 14/14 rotation schedule?

An Oil Gas 14/14 rotation schedule is a work arrangement commonly used in the oil and gas industry, where employees work for 14 consecutive days (often at remote sites or offshore rigs) followed by 14 days off. This schedule allows workers to maximize their time off while meeting the operational needs of the company. The 14/14 rotation can be demanding due to long hours and extended periods away from home, but it often includes travel, lodging, and meal allowances. Workers benefit from extended rest periods, which can help balance the physically and mentally demanding aspects of the job.

What can I expect from the work schedule and team dynamics while working a 14/14 rotation in the oil and gas industry?

A 14/14 rotation means you will work 14 consecutive days on-site, often in remote locations, followed by 14 days off. During your on-site period, shifts are typically long—usually 12 hours each day—and you'll live in company-provided accommodations. The work environment is highly collaborative, with teams made up of engineers, technicians, safety specialists, and other support staff, all relying on clear communication and cooperation to maintain safety and productivity. While the schedule allows for extended time off, adjusting to the intense work periods and time away from home can be a significant challenge. However, this rotation also provides opportunities to build strong working relationships and advance your skills in a fast-paced, hands-on setting.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a 14/14 rotation oil and gas position, and why are they important?

To thrive in a 14/14 rotation oil and gas role, you need technical expertise in drilling or production operations, relevant safety certifications (such as H2S, OSHA, or Well Control), and often a background in engineering or skilled trades. Familiarity with industry-standard tools and systems like SCADA, drilling software, and heavy machinery is typically required. Strong teamwork, adaptability, and resilience help individuals excel in remote, high-pressure environments. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring operational safety, efficiency, and effective collaboration during extended periods on-site.
