Offshore Operations Manager information

What is an offshore operations manager?

Offshore Operations Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing and coordinating all activities on offshore facilities such as oil rigs, gas platforms, or wind farms. Their main duties include managing personnel, ensuring safety compliance, overseeing production, and maintaining equipment. They act as a key link between offshore teams and onshore management, ensuring that operations run efficiently and safely while meeting regulatory and company standards. Offshore Operations Managers often have significant experience in the industry and strong leadership skills.

What are some common challenges offshore operations managers face when coordinating with onshore teams?

Offshore Operations Managers often encounter challenges in aligning communication and workflow between offshore and onshore teams due to time zone differences, cultural nuances, and varying regulatory standards. Maintaining real-time updates on project progress, ensuring safety compliance, and addressing logistical issues such as supply chain disruptions are also common hurdles. Successful managers typically leverage strong communication skills, robust planning tools, and regular virtual meetings to bridge these gaps and keep both teams aligned toward shared operational goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an offshore operations manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Offshore Operations Manager, you need extensive knowledge of offshore engineering, safety regulations, logistics, and typically a degree in engineering or a related field. Familiarity with offshore management software, safety management systems, and certifications such as BOSIET or OPITO are standard requirements. Strong leadership, decision-making, and effective communication are vital soft skills for managing diverse teams and high-stakes situations. These competencies are crucial for ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant offshore operations in challenging and dynamic environments.

What is the difference between Offshore Operations Manager vs Offshore Project Coordinator?

Compensation often includes base salary, bonuses, and benefits, reflecting industry standards for managerial and technical expertise in the energy, oil, or maritime sectors.

We are seeking a Manager of Software Engineering to lead a full-stack engineering team of 10+ engineers across onshore and offshore locations, owning our Contract Cancellations and Claims Payments platforms, including both internal and external-facing applications. This role reports to the Sr. Engineering Manager over Claims and Cancellations and is responsible for the delivery, stability, and modernization of the systems that process contract cancellations and claims payments for our OEM and dealer partners.

The ideal candidate brings hands-on engineering leadership, strong full-stack experience across frontend and backend, and a track record of using GenAI tools to accelerate the development lifecycle, paired with the ability to manage distributed onshore/offshore teams.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Partner with business stakeholders (Finance, Claims Operations, Product) to translate contract and payment processing needs into scalable technical solutions.
  • Oversee full-stack applications built on microservices and modern frontend frameworks, backed by both SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Champion the adoption of GenAI tools and agentic development practices (e.g., AI-assisted coding, automated testing, documentation) to improve engineering velocity and quality.
  • Drive engineering best practices including CI/CD, automated testing, code quality, and system observability.
  • Balance new feature delivery with technical debt reduction and platform modernization.
  • Ensure systems meet performance, availability, security, and compliance requirements for financial and contract transactions.
  • Coordinate with offshore partners and vendors to ensure consistent delivery and quality.
  • Lead production incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident improvements for cancellations and payments systems.
  • Build a strong culture of ownership, quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide coaching, performance management, and career development for engineers on the team.

The above statements are intended only to describe the general nature of the job and should not be construed as an all-inclusive list of position responsibilities.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience leading or working within distributed teams (onshore/offshore).
  • Strong hands-on experience across the full stack, including microservices and modern frontend frameworks.
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases and cloud-native application deployment.
  • Hands-on experience leveraging GenAI in the software development lifecycle (AI-assisted coding tools, agentic development frameworks, automated testing/documentation) is required.
  • Experience with payment processing, contract lifecycle management, or other transaction-heavy systems is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with claims processing or similar workflow-driven platforms is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.
