The position requires an individual capable of exercising individual judgment in dealing with the public, ability for carrying out prescribed procedures in accordance with general instructions, patience, understanding, a positive attitude, and a real desire to work with the public.

The Office Assistant is expected to be knowledgeable in a variety of recreational activities and have basic typing and computer skills and a pleasant personality in dealing with the public. Responsibilities Carry out basic office tasks as assigned by designated staff. Be pleasant and helpful to those coming in the office or on the telephone.

Becomes familiar with all functions and programs currently being offered by the Department. Locations, times, dates, instructors, length of season and age groups. Become familiar with office files, forms and computer software the department uses.

Maintains a good working relationship with staff members and the public. Type or enter on the computer, reports, correspondence, and other pertinent material, with accuracy, speed and neatness. Act as a receptionist, answering routine requests for information accurately, and directing callers and visitors as necessary.

Certifications/Licenses: None Other Requirements: Must be at least 16 yr of age Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities This position must possess good knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment; of business arithmetic and English; and the ability to type efficiently at a reasonable rate of speed.

This position must be computer literate; and possess the ability to get along with others. This position must also possess the ability to maintain poise and respond in a respectful manner to the public under pressure situations. Maintain a pleasant disposition under difficult conditions in dealing with supervisors, other staff, other departments, and the public.
