What is an OEM?

OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. An OEM is a company that produces parts or equipment that may be marketed by another manufacturer. For example, a company might make computer components, which are then sold under another brand's name. OEMs are common in industries like automotive, electronics, and computer hardware, where components are integrated into final products by other brands. The term can also refer to the original manufacturer of a product that is rebranded and sold by resellers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an OEM engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an OEM Engineer, you need a solid background in mechanical or electrical engineering, manufacturing processes, and product development, usually supported by a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with CAD software, PLM systems, and certifications like Six Sigma or ISO standards is often required. Strong problem-solving, project management, and collaboration skills help you coordinate effectively with cross-functional teams and clients. These skills ensure efficient product design, quality manufacturing, and successful delivery of OEM solutions in a competitive market.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in OEM roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in OEM roles often face challenges such as managing complex supply chains, adhering to strict quality standards, and coordinating with multiple partners or clients. Balancing the requirements of different stakeholders, staying up-to-date with evolving technologies, and ensuring timely delivery can be demanding. To address these challenges, strong project management, clear communication, and continuous process improvement are essential. Building collaborative relationships across engineering, production, and client teams also helps ensure smoother workflows and successful project outcomes.

Common Search & Comparison IntentOEM vs Technician

OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) focus on designing, producing, and ensuring the quality of products. Technicians, on the other hand, are skilled workers who install, repair, and maintain these products. While OEMs are involved in manufacturing, technicians work in service and maintenance roles, often requiring different certifications. Understanding these differences helps job seekers and employers clarify roles within the industry.

Job description

OEM Sales Manager

At Endress+Hauser, progress happens by working together. As the global leader in measurement instrumentation, our ~18,000 employees shape the future in the field of process automation. Whether developing and realizing new technology as a team, collaborating to build instrumentation, or strengthening vital relationships with countless global industries, we work to create trusted relationships that help everyone thrive. As a family-owned company, we look beyond short-term moves and work to create a vision that is forward-thinking for our people, our clients, and the world at large.

We are looking for an OEM Sales Manager to join our Endress+Hauser Liquid Analysis team in Anaheim, California. In this customer-facing role, you will serve as a trusted technical and commercial partner, helping customers optimize their processes through innovative liquid analysis solutions while supporting business growth, operational excellence, and long-term customer relationships.

What is the role about?

Do you enjoy building strong relationships with customers and becoming their trusted advisor? Are you passionate about combining technical expertise with commercial strategy to solve complex process challenges? Do you thrive in a fast-paced environment where customer satisfaction, forecasting, pricing, and business growth all come together?

As an OEM Sales Manager, you will play a vital role in driving customer success and business performance for our Liquid Analysis product portfolio. Working closely with customers, sales channels, operations, supply chain, service teams, and product specialists, you will provide technical support, manage key accounts, identify growth opportunities, and ensure customers receive exceptional service throughout their journey.

Which tasks will you perform?

You will:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for key customer accounts, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction through proactive communication and support.
  • Manage customer orders and collaborate with planning and operations teams to align delivery expectations and maintain on-time performance.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders at strategic customer accounts through virtual and in-person meetings.
  • Forecast customer demand and create sales projections to support inventory planning and business operations.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities through market research, customer engagement, trade shows, and collaboration with sales channels.
  • Provide technical consultation and application support to customers, sales teams, and internal departments.
  • Prepare and issue product quotations, respond to RFQs, and support pricing strategy and profitability objectives.
  • Coordinate customer complaint resolution activities by partnering with service, repair, quality, and operations teams to ensure timely issue resolution.
  • Analyze customer purchasing patterns and market trends to support account development and growth initiatives.
  • Support product lifecycle activities by communicating product improvements, quality changes, and obsolescence notifications to stakeholders.
  • Travel to customer sites as needed to provide technical support, strengthen business relationships, and identify opportunities for growth.

What do we expect from you?

You:

  • Have a bachelor's degree in a technical discipline such as Chemistry, Engineering, or a related scientific field; equivalent industry experience may be considered.
  • Possess at least 3 years of customer-facing experience in technical sales, customer support, process instrumentation, or a related field.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of industrial instrumentation, process automation, or analytical measurement technologies.
  • Have strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Are proficient with Microsoft Office applications and business systems such as SAP, Salesforce (SFDC), and SharePoint.
  • Can analyze customer needs, identify solutions, and effectively manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Excel at problem-solving, conflict resolution, and building collaborative relationships across departments and regions.
  • Are self-motivated, resourceful, and committed to delivering excellent customer service.
  • Are willing and able to travel domestically and internationally as required.
  • Are authorized to work in the United States and can meet applicable travel documentation requirements.

What can you expect from us?

  • Lifelong learning encouraged by versatile training, tuition reimbursement, success coaching, and further education opportunities.
  • Comprehensive benefit package (to include medical, dental, vision) and 401(k) savings with company match.
  • Compensation is competitive and includes bonus opportunities.
  • Work-life balance encouraged through our 10 company-paid holidays, paid time off, paid parental leave, employee assistance programs (financial, mental, and physical health and wellbeing), and employee discounts.
  • Employees work in a safety-first, climate controlled, clean manufacturing facility with utilization of Lean practices and ergonomic workstations to enhance productivity and comfort.
  • Family-owned, highly committed global company with a sustainable vision of the future.

The listed salary range for this position is $90,000-$120,000 annually, but the actual package offered may vary depending on different factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation for this position would include other elements which include an annual nondiscretionary bonus.
