Job Description

The General Maintenance Worker is responsible for maintaining the facilities, grounds, equipment, and infrastructure at Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point (MOTSU). This position performs a variety of preventive & waterside maintenance, repair, and general labor tasks to support the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of one of the nation's largest military ocean terminals.

Location: Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point (MOTSU), 6280 Sunny Point Road SE, Southport, NC 28461

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on administrative buildings, warehouses, maintenance facilities, and other terminal structures.
  • Complete minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, painting, flooring, and mechanical repairs.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on facility systems and equipment.
  • Repair doors, locks, windows, fencing, lighting, and building fixtures.
  • Maintain roadways, sidewalks, drainage systems, and exterior grounds.
  • Inspect facilities and report maintenance deficiencies or safety hazards.
  • Perform routine waterside maintenance of docks, piers, waterfront facilities, and surrounding areas.
  • Operate small vessels/work boats in support of maintenance and operational activities.
  • Safely perform maintenance tasks from vessels, docks, and floating platforms.
  • Follow all marine safety procedures and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE), including personal flotation devices (PFDs).
  • Respond promptly to maintenance work orders and emergency repair requests.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, lawn equipment, forklifts, and other maintenance equipment as authorized.
  • Assist with grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, debris removal, and storm cleanup.
  • Assist with moving office furniture, equipment, supplies, and materials throughout the installation.
  • Maintain accurate records of completed work and materials used.
  • Ensure work areas remain clean, organized, and compliant with OSHA, environmental, and DoD safety standards.
  • Support facility improvement projects and assist skilled trades personnel as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Ability to safely perform maintenance activities from boats and floating platforms.
  • Knowledge of basic waterfront safety practices and marine operations.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Will be subject to a pre-employment criminal background and DMV check.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Regularly work outdoors in inclement weather including rain, snow, heat and cold.
  • Consistent attendance and reliability required.
  • Ability to effectively read, write, and speak English.
  • Must have the ability to work independently and within established guidelines, follow directions, and work well with others.
  • Must be able to work off a ladder (up to 16’ tall) or Aerial lift (scissor lift)

Experience Requirements

  • One (1) year or more of general building maintenance, construction, facilities maintenance, or related experience
  • Experience operating small vessels, work boats, or similar marine equipment.

Required Licenses or Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must possess a valid/current state issued driver's license
