OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH NURSE

OFFICE OF PUBLIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION

This position is open to current ILLINOIS NURSES ASSOCIATION BIDDERS AND the PUBLIC. Only current City employees covered under the City's Collective Bargaining Agreement with the ILLINOIS NURSES ASSOCIATION- BARGAINING UNIT 37 are considered BIDDERS and are eligible to bid. Qualified BIDDERS who properly submit a bid application will receive preference over any non-bidders.

Successful candidates must pass a drug screen and a background investigation. Persons offered employment must pass all pre-employment exams prior to appointment.

Under supervision, performs case management nursing activities to monitor the care received by City employees on medical leave due to injury on duty or illness to ensure the appropriate use of medical leave time and performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

* Prepares applicant medical charts for physician review. Aids with applicant processing

* Triages calls and answers medical related questions

* Organizes a vaccine clinic and administers vaccines

* Orders medical supplies

* Performs case management for duty and non-duty related cases

* Provides case management oversight and coordination

* Conducts one-on-one case management appointments for assigned member case advising them of appropriate forms (e.g., limited duty application) to complete, policies and next steps

* Maintains a caseload of department members in a medical status, from beginning until the close of a case

* Assesses the appropriateness of care being received and makes recommendations regarding continued use of medical leave time

* Reviews individuals' medical records to ensure case files contain current diagnostic reports and related documentation

* Schedules appointments for referrals to treating physicians or therapists as directed by staff physician

* Follows up with attending physicians and therapists to discuss and document progress of individuals

* Prepares case summaries of individuals' medical histories, including injuries on duty and illnesses, for review by Medical Director

* Provides limited nursing care such as point of care testing, taking blood pressure readings, removing sutures or administering injections as needed

* Maintains case management records and prepares related reports

* Assists with ordering and maintaining an inventory of medical supplies and vaccines

* Conducts health education seminars on a variety of health issues including exposure to and treatment of communicable diseases as required

* Schedules physicals for employees when needed (e.g., annual, voluntary, re-hire or reinstatement, assignment to specialty units)

* Receives, reviews, and forwards medical-related paperwork (e.g., drug testing results, applications for respirators, records of convalescent or full duty work status)

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

* Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing accredited the National League for Nursing, OR Commission on Collegiate Nurse Education (CCNE), OR an approved foreign credential evaluation, plus two (2) years of experience in ambulatory or occupational health care.

Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications

* Must be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse

* Applicants must possess a valid State of Illinois Registered Nurse license at the time of employment

NOTE: A copy of your official transcripts and Registered Nurse license will be required at the time of processing.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires applicants to complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected. Selected Bidders will be hired in seniority order according to the collective bargaining agreement.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

* Previous case management experience

* Previous worker's compensation experience
