Job description


The Obstetrics Technician, under the supervision of the Director and/or Clinical Manager, is resonsible for preparing supplies and equipment, providing technical services, assisting with procedures, data collection, and supports patient care.


Patient Care
* Assists RNs with patient care.

* Reports and implements corrective actions under the direction on the RN.

* Prioritizes and addresses technical needs in conjunction with patient conditions.

* Documents interventions and patient responses to inverventions and any changes in patient's condition in the the electronic health record.

* Maintains department cleanliness including following procedures for clean up after treatment.

* Assists in transporting patients, equipment, and supplies.

* Assists patients with donning/doffing compression garments as needed.

* Observe patient for skin integrity and report any problems to supervising clinician.

* Assist patients with activities of daily living, such as toileting as needed.

* Performs Newborn Hearing screening.

* Assist patients with mobility under the direction of supervising clinician.

Operations
* Provides and maintains provider preferred items.

* Scrubs into OB operating room.

* Applies principles of sterile technique during procedures.

* Demonstrates ability to problem solve during procedure, even during emergent situations.

* Demonstrates understanding of unit's standards of care and policies, including the ability to locate NAH policies and procedures.

* Adheres to operating room procedures. Prepares and transports instruments for sterile processing.

* Provides safe patient care for the intra operative phase, inlcuding specimen handling and medication labeling and handling.

* Functions as Unit Secretary/Patient Care Technician/Patient Safety Attendant

* Participates in training and education of new employees and other staff regarding aseptic technique and processes.

Administrative
* Answers, evaluates, priortizes telephone calls, while obtaining complete and accurate information to determine needs of caller.

* Maintains unit documents.

* Maintains charts and copies charts as requested.

* Assist charge nurse with clerical duties.

* Performs registration process.

Equipment/Supply Management
* Manages equipment and supplies

* Demonstrates knowledge and utilization of department medical equipment.

* Restocks operating rooms and patient rooms.

* Prepares appropriate instruments and supplies for procedures and be able to anitcipate sequence of events and needs ot surgeon and patient.

Compliance/Safety
* If required for position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.

* Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the safety event reporting tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

* Responsible for maintaining up-to-date knowledge of cybersecurity trends, developments, best practices and regulatory changes.

* Demonstrates accuracy of documentation of assessments, interventions and patient responses as evidence by the appropriate documentation system.

* Follows guidelines for safety with regards to contact precautions and all policies/procedures dealing with blood born pathogens.

* Demonstrates and utilizes the guidelines of care and practice via the nursing process and in accordance with Arizona State Board of Nursing Laws and Regulations being able to perform at a fully competent level.

* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.



Education:

High School Diploma or GED- Required


Certification & Licensures:

BLS (American Heart Association)- Required
Current, unrestricted CNA/LNA license in the State of Arizona- Preferred
Enrolled or completion of OB tech training program- Required


Experience:

Experience as CNA/LNA- Preferred

Scrub in OR- Preferred

Bilingual- Preferred
