MEP Superintendent / Project Manager - Healthcare & Secure Facilities

Estimated Salary Range: $145,000 - $210,000 base per year (Commensurate with experience)

Scope of Work:
The Mechanical Superintendent/Project Manager will support a $300M+ program to retrofit existing, active hospital spaces into secure, specialized medical locations for individuals in custody. This role requires extensive MEP, healthcare, and correctional facility expertise to navigate a highly sensitive and operational environment.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Project Leadership: Manage complex phasing, planning, and on-site coordination for the retrofit of multiple floors within an active 24/7 hospital setting.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Lead regular coordination meetings and act as the primary liaison between the NYC Department of Corrections, NYC Health + Hospitals, facility leadership, and medical staff.
  • Active Facility Coordination: Oversee Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) compliance, dust mitigation, and noise control to ensure zero disruption to adjacent active hospital operations and patient care.
  • Secure Infrastructure: Manage the installation and integration of specialized security components, including anti-ligature fixtures, reinforced architectural barriers, and advanced security/access control electronics.
  • MEP Systems Management: Coordinate highly critical MEP shutdowns, tie-ins, testing, and commissioning without compromising life-safety systems in the occupied facility.
  • Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to dual-regulatory standards, meeting both healthcare guidelines (e.g., DOH, Joint Commission) and strict correctional facility security requirements.

Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years of related experience, including all phases of multimillion-dollar construction, interior renovations, mechanical/electrical/plumbing, and infrastructure projects.
  • Specialized Expertise: Direct experience in Healthcare and/or Correctional Facility construction is strongly preferred.
  • Leadership Skills: Ability to lead all functions of construction project management, including planning, designing, processing, managing staff, supervising sub-contractors, budgeting, scheduling, progress reporting, and timely completion of projects without compromising quality & safety.
  • Certifications: OSHA 30 Required.
  • Work Environment: This is an on-site position (Openings at North Central Bronx Hospital and Woodhull Hospital).
