Job description

Duties Description Under the direction of the Park Supervisor or higher-level managers, the Park and Recreation Aide will be responsible for landscaping and mowing tasks in Shirley Chisholm State Park. Complete brush, shrub and small tree removals and mowing projects inside the drainage swale system throughout Shirley Chisholm State Park. Clean, inspect, maintain and operate powered mowing equipment, including string trimmers, hedge trimmers, brush cutters, push mowers, brush mowers and blowers.

Track and report mowing progress throughout the drainage swale system. Assist in larger cutting projects throughout the park. Other duties may be as assigned as needed.

Minimum Qualifications NO MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS TITLE PER CIVIL SERVICE. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with landscaping and gas-powered tools. Bilingual, Spanish language proficiency.

Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS: Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment. Must be able to perform medium to heavy physical labor and must be able to lift at least 40 pounds. Must be willing to work outdoors continuously, in all weather conditions.

Applicants must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Applicants must be willing to travel to NYS Parks throughout the NYC Region and the 5 Boroughs. BENEFITS: This position has the option to join the NYS Employee's Retirement System and may be eligible for health insurance, dental and vision coverage as well as the opportunity for paid time off in the form of vacation, sick, personal and holiday leave after time and service requirements has been met.
