Job Description
The perfusionist operates the cardiopulmonary bypass equipment for cardiac surgery. This entails assembly of required equipment, calculation of perfusion parameters, including the determination of appropriate medication, fluids and blood constituents for the prime solution. During bypass the perfusionist will monitor and adjust parameters accordingly to maintain desired hemodynamics, blood gases, electrolytes, cerebral oxygen saturations and coagulation parameters. The perfusionist must work closely with the surgeon and anesthesiologist to determine appropriate pharmacology and blood product use. Perfusion duties also include but are not limited to, IABP management, autologous blood processing, platelet gel preparation, point of care testing, data collection and management, ventricular assist devices , ECMO , QA and QC . Perfusionist must be available to work irregular hours and provide on call services on a 24/7 basis.

Education And Credentials
BS - Bachelor of Science in Cardiovascular perfusion technology required. Perfusionist permit issued by the NYS Office of Professionals may be used in lieu of license upon hire. NYS license to be obtained within 1 year of hire. Existing staff must possess ABCP Credentials and/or participate in ongoing ABCP recertification. Existing staff not eligible for ABCP certification are expected to participate in the recertification program with the department manager. American Board Cardio Perfus upon hire required.
Experience
For clinical positions, other than Registered Nurse and nursing support positions, internal applicants must have been employed in the same job title as the per diem position for which they are applying or in a comparable area of practice. Internal and External applicants must have a minimum of nine (9) continuous months of comparable work experience within two (2) years of the time the per diem job is posted. All applicants will be required to satisfy all orientation/probationary requirements.
