Program Summary:

Volunteers of America is a federally and stated funded comprehensive early childhood education program with a focus on child development that includes a childโ€™s cognitive, physical and social emotional growth and development. The program fosters Family Engagement in all areas of a childโ€™s development and provides comprehensive resources to low-income families in the areas of health, nutrition and community resources.

Job Opportunity:

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Nutritional Aide is responsible for the preparation, distribution and maintenance of food.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:ย 

  • Plans menu in cooperation with parents and nutritionist.
  • Purchases, receives and maintains food to assure quality and cost control.
  • Maintains properย storage and control of waste.
  • Prepares and serves food and supervises cleanup.
  • Keeps proper records of purchases, inventory, meals served, etc.
  • Supervises maintenance of equipment, kitchen and dining areas.
  • Maintains good sanitationย and safety practices, includingย personal appearanceย and hygiene.
  • Participates in food-related learning activities.
  • Uses classroom participation to introduce new foods and other food-related experiences to children.
  • Includes children and parents in assisting with preparation and cleanup.
  • Participates and assists in planning for parent nutrition and consumer education.
  • Provides supervision for students at lunch.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Minimum education of high school graduate or GED.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of institutional cooking. ย 
  • Requires a valid food handlers card. ย 
  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal investigation/fingerprint screening, health/TB screening and all other pre-hire requirements as defined in Title 22 and contract specifications.
  • Must be CPR certified.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and meet the insurance guidelines established by the Corporation.
