Job Summary

Contract Terms: This is an independent contractor engagement. The selected contractors will be responsible for managing their own work methods, schedule, taxes, insurance, and business expenses.

Contract anticipated weekly schedule:

3-hour blocks, 2 days per week at each location, with service windows: Santa Ana, CA, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Garden Grove, CA, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Orange, CA, 9 a.m. to noon.

Scope of Work

The Contract Registered Dietician will provide individualized nutrition counseling and coaching services for employees in a transportation operator work environment. This role is responsible for conducting comprehensive nutrition assessments, delivering evidence-based dietary guidance, developing personalized nutrition plans, and supporting employees in achieving sustainable health and wellness goals.

The ideal candidate possesses strong counseling skills, practical knowledge of nutrition, and the ability to develop realistic nutrition strategies that accommodate shift-based schedules and operational work demands.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive one-on-one nutrition counseling sessions that include:
    • Personalized nutrition assessments.
    • Review of health and wellness history.
    • Evaluation of medications and dietary supplements, as appropriate.
    • Assessment of hydration habits and meal timing patterns.
    • Nutrition and lifestyle evaluations.
    • Discussion of shift schedules, workplace challenges, and barriers to healthy eating.
    • Development of individualized wellness goals based on employee readiness, needs, and operational realities.
    • Delivery of practical nutrition education that supports sustainable healthy eating habits.
    • Provision of evidence-based dietary recommendations and actionable guidance.
    • Creation of individualized wellness action plans.
    • Ongoing support through follow-up counseling appointments
    • Progress reviews and wellness check-ins.
    • Evaluation of progress toward established wellness and nutrition goals.
    • Reinforcement of positive and sustainable health behaviors.
    • Identification of barriers impacting participation, adherence, or progress.
    • Modification of nutrition strategies based on employee feedback and workplace conditions.
    • Establishment of next-step goals, action items, and recommendations.
  • Key Duties and Expectations
    • Build trusting relationships with employees through supportive and confidential counseling services.
    • Apply evidence-based nutrition principles to address employee health needs.
    • Develop practical nutrition solutions that can be maintained within demanding transportation, shift-based, and operational work environments.
    • Document counseling sessions and maintain appropriate records in compliance with applicable privacy and professional standards.
    • Collaborate with program administrators and organizational stakeholders, as appropriate.
    • Support employee engagement in health and wellness initiatives.
Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN/RD) credential required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • CPR/AED certification preferred.
  • Current professional liability insurance required
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in nutrition counseling, wellness coaching, health promotion, or employee wellness programs.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based nutrition practices and behavior-change strategies.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and motivational interviewing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple client interactions.
  • Experience supporting diverse populations and varying levels of health readiness.

Physical Demands

  • Requires sitting and standing for long periods of time.
  • Some bending and stretching could be required.
  • Some travel required
  • Working under stress and use of computer/phone required.
  • Manual dexterity required for use of computer keyboard.
  • Occasionally may be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel and/or crouch.
  • Ability to kneel for extended periods of time while rendering emergency care and/or CPR

  • Mainly indoor, office environment conditions.
  • The noise level is usually moderate.
  • Air quality is good and temperature is controlled.

This is an independent contractor position. The anticipated starting contract rate is $75-$100 per hour; however, final compensation will be discussed during the interview process and may vary based on qualifications, experience, certifications, class formats, availability, and other relevant factors.
