Overview
Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties has a full-time opportunity for a Degreed Nutritionist in Santa Ana, CA.
Provide nutrition counseling and education services to high/low risk participants. Conduct group classes, staff in services and perform other functions as requested by the supervisor. Assist in training new staff members.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Minimum Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Food and Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition, or related field, or associate's degree and Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR) current certification.
Minimum Work Experience:
  • Knowledge of WIC program is desired.
  • Knowledge and experience in lactation education preferred.
Language Requirements/Preference:
  • English and Spanish required.

  • Strong commitment to quality healthcare and excellent customer service is required.
  • Must thrive in a fast paced, rigorous environment with changing priorities.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Must demonstrate high level computer skills including; Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Electronic medical records experience may also be required.
  • This position may require travel to other sites and locations; if using a personal vehicle to meet this requirement, a valid CA driver's license and current auto insurance in compliance with the minimum requirements of CA vehicle code are required.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions: Essential functions encompass the required tasks, duties and responsibilities performed as part of the job and the reason the job exists.
  • Work under the direction of the Center Manager and assist's to ensure that the WIC program activities are in compliance with USDA, California WIC State Branch policies and procedures.
  • Conduct needs assessments of WIC participants and the community populations by using the proper WIC data systems. Review of risk factors, breast feeding rates and dietary practices/intake of the community served.
  • Certify WIC participants: develop nutrition care plan, follow-up and document using WIC WISE. Conduct quarterly individual WIC staff audits and group class observation as part of the quality assurance and compliance processes. These reports should be reported and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate Nutrition Questionnaire and provide dietary/nutrition counseling for all participants. Assures all dietary risk codes are documented. Follows the Nutrition Service Plan for the agency and participates in quality assurance of the approved goals.
  • Perform breastfeeding counseling to breastfeeding women in the WIC program. Ensure WIC procedures are being followed, promote breastfeeding among WIC participants using the Breastfeeding Protocol and continues to increase knowledge of lactation practices and progresses.
  • Assist WIC Sites in operations, client flow, outreach efforts, functions (e.g. reports and supply inventory) and assist staff to assure clients are served in timely manner.
  • Assist the satellite outreach team in client flow and offsite activities. Be aware of internal and external referral systems and recruit new cliental as necessary. Provide workshops on an as needed basis within the organization and community. Must have a valid CA Driver License.
  • Attend WIC - sponsored trainings and meetings. Obtain required amount of continuing education units per year to maintain certification. May require out of town travel.
  • Conduct nutrition classes as determined by the NSP. Take active role in training of new staff, WNA certification and updating staff in regards to nutrition care plans, risk codes and areas that pertain to nutrition assessments, materials and handouts.
  • Carry out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training and mentoring employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and reporting personnel issues to the Center Manager or WIC Program Director.
  • Ensure smooth, efficient WIC operation by assisting with development and enhancement of staff utilization, developing optimal staffing patterns/ training.
  • Facilitate and train WNA staff on Nutrition Education, provide coaching and mentor WNA staff.
  • Assist with required training and pursuing Nutrition Service Plan goals.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Center Manager and or Program Director.
