About This Role

Clemson Child Development Center is in search of a Nutrition Service Assistant to plan & prepare meals according to the USDA Food Program Guidelines. This position is vital to our Center's mission and care of our children. Previous food service industry experience is required and needs to be someone who enjoys working with children and their nutritional needs.

Clemson Child Development Center was founded over 50 years ago as a non-profit childcare facility with the mission to serve all children in the Clemson area with affordable, high-quality childcare and a preschool education in a diverse learning environment. The tradition of excellence continues with an A+ ABC Quality Rating and the 4K First Steps Program taught at CCDC. Our teachers foster learning and development through creative, cognitive, social and physical activities appropriate for each age group. We are a full-service childcare center providing care and meals for children six weeks to 4 years old.

What You'll Do

Job Description Includes but not limited to:

  • Consistent attendance and positive attitude with a willingness to perform responsibilities with a spirit of excellence
  • Share responsibilities with Nutrition Manager and other Nutrition Service Assistant
  • Actively assist with Food Service for Breakfast, Lunch, and or snack as assigned by Kitchen/Nutrition Manager
  • Assist in preparing food following USDA guideline & nutrition standards and recipes
  • Keep food items & non-food items safe and organized
  • Follow all DSS/USDA/DEHEC Guidelines for food preparation, storage & kitchen cleanliness
  • Work with teachers on identifying and protecting children with food allergies
  • Clean, wash & put away all items used in food preparation & service-
  • Clean cafeteria tables, chairs and floors to include sweeping and mopping
  • Assist with special events put on by CCDC teachers and leadership
  • Work with Nutrition Manager and Co-Nutrition Assistant to prepare and serve meals in accordance with CACFP guidelines
  • Maintain a mobile/active role and presence • Follow instructions and complete tasks assigned by Nutrition Manager in a timely manner
  • Assist Nutrition Manager and Co-Nutrition Assistant to maintain stock levels of food, beverages, and supplies
  • Transport meals and snacks to classrooms in a timely manner (until all meals are served in cafeteria)
  • Upon Food and Supply delivery; check order for accuracy and store properly
  • Maintain use of melamine dishware/stainless flatware, etc. a minimum of 90 percent of meals served
  • Maintain use of Dishwasher/Sanitizer until otherwise notified by Director
  • Clean and Sanitize all kitchen items (e.g. pots, pans, utensils, etc.) used during shift according to DSS and DHEC regulations
  • Clean stove top, grill, and bottom of refrigerator as needed according to DSS and DHEC regulations
  • Clean and Sanitize sink, surfaces, and all equipment according to DSS and DHEC regulations
  • Clean all non-food contact surfaces of all equipment including counters, shelves, etc. at such frequency as is necessary to be free of accumulation of dust, dirt, food particles, and other debris in order to maintain DSS and DHEC standards
  • Mop kitchen and cafeteria on alternating schedule directed by Nutrition Manager
  • Clean tables and student chairs on alternating schedule directed by Nutrition Manager Communicate with all staff, children, and board members in a positive manner
  • Be able to ensure CCDC compliance with all DSS/DHEC regulations/requirements
  • Be able to ensure compliance with CACFP requirements
  • Be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work independently without direct and continuous supervision
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn

Requirements

Applicant Requirements:

  • At least one year of food service experience
  • 18 years of age with a High School diploma or GED certificate
  • Must pass all state & federal background checks required to work in childcare facility.
  • Strong work ethic & consistent attendance to work
  • Attention to detail
  • General understanding of early childhood nutrition
  • Ability to lift 30lbs, move tables, chairs and bend down to pick up objects off the floor
  • Willingness to learn-
  • Established references who can verify your ability to be a dependable employee who is present, punctual, and willing to work

Nice To Haves

Previous Experience in Food Preparation and/or Service preferred

  • Working knowledge and experience with DSS and DHEC regulations preferred
  • Working knowledge of ABC guidelines for food service and meal preparation preferred
  • Working knowledge of CACFP requirements and guidelines for food service and meal preparation
  • Pediatric CPR and First Aid Certification A genuinely dependable and hardworking employee!
