Job description

POSITION TITLE: School Nutrition Warehouseman/Driver REPORTS TO: Director of School Nutrition BEGINNING DATE: Open Until Filled

NATURE OF WORK:

Employee performs work involving delivery of food commodities and supplies for the School Nutrition System. Tasks require physical labor in the loading and unloading of goods received and delivered. Work is generally repetitive in nature, and detailed instructions are provided for new and unusual assignments. Simple problems are resolved by the employee with more complex problems referred to the Director of School Nutrition. Errors should be revealed during periodic inventory or through occasional observation and may result in low inventory and budget problems. Employee works independently with limited supervision.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Working knowledge of vehicle assigned
  • Working knowledge of inventory control and warehousing procedures
  • Ability to load and unload materials and supplies at destination
  • Ability to handle and store chemicals
  • Skill in driving, such as turning, backing, parking, and maneuvering unusual terrain
  • Skill in simple computations
  • Ability to follow oral or written instructions
  • Basic working knowledge of computers
  • Knowledge of volatile materials storage
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with employees and the general public.
  • Must maintain acceptable attendance record and be punctual.
  • Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

  • High school graduate
  • Valid NC Driver's License
  • Experience operating delivery-type vehicles
  • Experience in the operation of a forklift. Forklift certification will be required within a timely manner after position start date.
  • Ability to drive large vehicles in a safe mannerย 

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 months

SALARY:ย  Salary Grade 57

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to lift 50-75 lbs. repetitively without difficulty
  • Must be able to stand, sit, or walk for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms routinely.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, twist, lift, carry, push, pull, or reach overhead.
  • Must be able to drive to variety of school sites.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in standard English.
  • Ability to distinguish between colors and shades of color.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Drives small, medium-sized, or large capacity vehicles to transport materials to and from specific destinations.
  2. Delivers equipment, materials, supplies, and food commodities to the schools and offices of the system.
  3. Performs deliveries and pickups according to set procedures.
  4. Loads and unloads materials and supplies using hand trucks, pallet jacks, or forklifts.
  5. Records deliveries and pickups.
  6. Prepares receipts and/or obtains signatures for deliveries.
  7. Maintains inventory records and tracking system.
  8. Determines appropriate places for storage.
  9. Rotates stock as needed.
  10. Monitors activities in the School Nutrition Warehouse to ensure proper recording of outgoing materials.
  11. Maintains overall organization and cleanliness of the School Nutrition Warehouse.
  12. Inspects vehicle equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water, and requests service and repairs as needed.
  13. Performs related work as required.
  14. Adjusts inventory levels to reflect receipts and disbursements.
  15. Properly receive, store, deliver materials according to HACCP.
  16. On-call rotation: weekends and nights, as needed, to transfer food during equipment failure.
  17. Monitor freezer and cooler alarms.
  18. Performs general maintenance tasks at warehouse and school cafeterias as needed.
