Job description

  • Occasional evenings and twice monthly late nights.
  • Will work 2 days per week in Great Barrington location and 3 days per week in Pittsfield location
  • DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTION
    • Functions as a Nutrition Assistant to provide nutrition services to low risk WIC participants: pregnant women, breastfeeding women and caregivers of infants and children. Includes collection and assessment of anthropometric, hematologic and dietary information. Provides counseling, appropriate WIC food package, and follow up nutrition education based on risk assessment. Must meet state requirements for training. • Will also be trained as Program Assistant, and as such will be responsible for running the front office-receiving clients, issuing checks, answering phones, scheduling appointments. Responsible for financial screening of clients and entering information so nutritionist can complete the appointment. Explains usage of checks to clients with store and food list, and makes confirmation calls daily.
  • POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.)
    • Experience:
      • 1-3 years general office experience.
        Computer skills, some work in health field helpful.
        Must be sensitive to needs of WIC population.
        Experience as WIC client preferred.
    • Education and Training:
      • High school graduate, aptitude in science or health/nutrition preferred, and WIC state training (to be completed upon employment at WIC).
    • License, Certification & Registration:
      • N/A
    • Other Requirements:
      • Must be able to process WIC information accurately.
        Must be able to communicate with WIC clients and other supportive agencies appropriately.
        Must be available to travel to and work at all WIC sites during clinic hours, as needed.
