At IHC, a Federally Qualified Health Center, we specialize in integrated care which means having access to essential services to meet the needs of patients we serve in the community. With ten healthcare centers, eight Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) nutrition program locations, a Mobile Health Unit, and in-house Pharmacy services (select locations), we offer primary medical, dental, and behavioral healthcare services to community-based patient populations throughout Indiana that are diverse in age, educational background, and income level.


IHC Kokomo is looking for a part time Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) to join our dedicated and experienced team. The Expanded Functions Dental Assistant is responsible for sterilizing and maintaining dental treatment rooms and instruments, performing advanced lab procedures like pouring impressions, preparing casting models, and managing inventory control. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in dental assisting, excellent patient care skills, and the ability to perform expanded functions efficiently.

Clinic Hours of Operation:

Monday - 7:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Tuesday - 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Wednesday - 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Thursday - 7:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Friday - 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Saturday (every other) - 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Expanded Functions Dental Assistant role responsibilities include:

  • Schedules and confirms appointments and assists patients to the examination room.
  • Conveys information to the patient and provider; completes/updates dental and medical history of the patient; completes dental charting.
  • Assists the dentist in providing dental treatment; takes and develops dental x-rays; removes surgical sutures; places topical medications; applies topical fluoride treatments; takes impressions and bite registrations; applies pit and fissure sealants.
  • Places, cures, and finishes composite resin restorations; places liners and bases.
  • Sterilizes, prepares, and maintains dental instruments, supplies and equipment and rooms.
  • Transfers appropriate instruments to dental treatment rooms for specialized procedures.
  • Prepares dental materials, cements, amalgam, composite, impression materials, etc.
  • Completes medical and laboratory supply inventories; orders materials, as needed.
  • Prepares and sends specialized lab cases and paperwork to external laboratory for processing.
  • Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication, strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with a wide variety of patients, including children.
  • Work well in a team environment and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrate positive customer service skills
  • Maintain high detail orientation and accuracy.
  • Prioritize, organize tasks and time, and follow up.
  • Perform responsibilities efficiently and timely.
  • Take initiative and need little supervision.
  • Recognize and suggest alternate methods or processes that may need improving.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a recognized Dental Assistant program required
  • Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) certification required
  • Current Radiography license
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (AED included)
  • Coronal polishing certificate required within 6 months of hire date
