Job Overview:

At Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, Nursing Professional Development Practitioner/Nurse Educator is responsible for participating in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of education and training for hospital associates. As a Nursing Professional Development Practitioner/Nurse Educator, a typical day may include:  

  • Provide for orientation, in-service training, and continuing education
     
  • Develops, implements, and validates initial and ongoing competencies
     
  • Demonstrates effective teaching skills through appropriate instructional methodologies
     
  • Applies principles of adult learning theory when conducting programs
     
  • Facilitates professional role development and practice role transitions
     
  • Educates and mentors nursing staff on quality improvement and evidence-based practice
     
  • Maintains simulation lab and equipment; provides simulation experiences and encourages use of simulation in educational programs
     
  • Analyzes issues, trends, and supporting data to determine the learning needs of individuals and departments
     
  • Represents Nursing Professional Development/NPD specialty in hospital-wide/system-wide committees and councils; disseminates information accordingly
     
  • Organizes multiple assignments and/or projects simultaneously
     
  • Visible and accessible to clinical staff
     
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as delegated within NPD Scope and Standards of Practice
     
  • Role requires flexibility, adaptability, and independent prioritization of responsibilities
     
  • Travel throughout RWJBH
     
  • Pursuing continued professional growth through access to continuing education, and organizational resources that support long-term career progression

To be considered for this Nurse Educator opportunity, you must have at least 5 years of RN experience in acute care clinical services, be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing, a bachelor’s degree in nursing, hold an active New Jersey Registered Nurse license in good standing, and a current American Heart Association BLS certification. A master’s degree in Education, Nursing and/or Health Related Field or post-master's certificate in education, specialty nursing certification such as Nursing Professional Development-Board Certified/NPD-BC, and 2 years in professional development/education are strongly preferred. This position offers a full-time schedule on the day shift, 37.5 working weekly hours, off shift hours quarterly, and no holidays, allowing you to build strong patient relationships while maintaining balance.
