Job description

Overview

The Office of Academic Excellence at New York Medical College & Touro College of Dental Medicine is hiring SimLab Teaching Assistants for the fall and spring semesters (FSSLTAs). With Pre-Clinical Operative Dentistry Lab, Pre-Clinical Pediatric Dentistry Lab, Introduction to Clinical Dentistry Lab, Endodontics Lab, and Prosthodontics Lab faculty oversight, FSSLTAs are responsible for providing pre-clinical support to enrolled D1/D2 students. Opportunities for FSSLTAs to assist the Associate Director, TCDM & Clinical Graduate Programs at NYMC are also offered throughout the summer semester. FSSLTAs are hired based on their clinical cohort alternate week availability and their previous academic success in pre-clinical courses. FSSLTAs are only hired during the student's Alternate Week (aka Self- directed Learning week) M-F between September and May. SSLTA success will be evaluated by student/faculty/staff feedback. FSSLTA hours worked in SimLab each day are determined by specific faculty needs.

Responsibilities
  • General support to faculty while assisting D1/D2 students with pre-clinical knowledge.
  • Scholarly projects as assigned.
Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Must be in good academic standing (i.e., not in remediation and have attained SimLab grades of 85% or higher).
  • Applicants must be currently enrolled at Touro College of Dental Medicine.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Must be able to communicate detailed information (written & verbal).
  • Reliability is a must (i.e., all hired SSLTAs must inform their supervisor and faculty in advance if they are unable to attend at any point during their alternate week).

  • This position is for the fall and spring semester only.
  • This position is in-person only at 19 Skyline Drive Hawthorne, NY 10532.
