Job Description

The Simulation Lab Technician assists with the daily operations of the Winona State University (WSU) healthcare simulation learning environment for undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. The Simulation Lab Technician provides technical and hands on support for faculty and students within the simulation laboratory centers. Evening and weekend hours may be required.

Responsibilities:

1. Assist with educational technology, simulation, and skills lab/simulation. Performs the preparation, set up, take down and clean up within the simulation laboratory centers. Ensure a safe environment by utilizing personal protective equipment protocols and maintaining and following Material Safety Data sheets. Collaborate on the delivery and facilitation of simulated and skills lab experiences to students. Encourage incorporation of concepts related to diversity and inclusion into simulation practices. Organize and manage open lab for students.

2. Maintain the organization of the labs, including the tracking, ordering, and usage of lab equipment and supplies. Coordinate preventative maintenance of the simulation mannequins and equipment and

perform basic maintenance and repair services of educational technologies and simulation equipment. Ensure that supplies are available through regular inventory and ordering of supplies and equipment when needed as per State of Minnesota, Minnesota State, and WSU Business Office procedures. Provide recommendations to faculty of options for the purchase of supplies and equipment as well as maintaining records of purchases and assisting the Simulation Educator and Chairs in tracking departmental budget.

3. Maintain expertise in educational technologies to effectively conduct simulation experiences in collaboration with simulation lab faculty. Maintain level of knowledge and skill in current simulation laboratory technology and simulation best practices through attending conferences and webinars. Become skilled in new simulation laboratory technology when implemented.

4. Coordinate and perform basic maintenance and repair services of educational technologies and simulation equipment. Maintain schedule of maintenance requirements for each piece of equipment. Contact vendor representative to schedule maintenance.

5. Participate on committees in an ad hoc role to promote the utilization of educational technology across the curriculum.

6. Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.

Salary Range: $24.40-$35.30/hour; commensurate with qualilfications and experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree OR an equivalent combination of education and healthcare work experience (e.g. Associate + 2 years in healthcare, Diploma + 4 years in healthcare).
  • Must pass a State of Minnesota background study in accordance with Minnesota statutes.
  • Ability to meet MN State Requirements including Health Care Provider CPR certification, and up-to-date immunizations, including influenza.

Preferred Qualification

  • Experience in a. CNA, LPN, EMT or related healthcare role.
  • Experience in facilitating simulation education.
  • Experience in working independently.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time
  • Excellent communication skills, including interpersonal, written, and public speaking.
  • Knowledge of different forms of technology and willingness to learn additional technology platforms.
  • Self-motivated individual able to participate in a team and adapt well to new situations.
  • Ability to manage an on-going budget.
