Job description

The Opportunity:
We are seeing a hands-on and detail-oriented Engineering Technician to support our multidisciplinary engineering team. The Engineering Technician will be responsible for executing a wide range of electrical and mechanical technician tasks, as well as maintaining and sustaining our engineering lab environment. The candidate is expected to collaborate with cross-functional teams, ensure compliance with internal and external standards and regulations, and ensure the timely completion of assigned tasks. The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic R&D or product development setting and enjoys solving practical engineering challenges.

How I will Contribute:
  • Assist in building, testing, and troubleshooting electronic assemblies, circuits, and wiring harnesses.
  • Perform soldering and rework (including SMT and through-hole), crimping, and connector assembly.
  • Support prototype development and bring-up of electronic systems
  • Operate test equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, logic analyzers, etc.) to validate functionality.
  • Assembly and document mechanical prototypes, test fixtures, cables, and enclosures using hand tools and mechanical drawings
  • Perform fit-checks, measurements, and mechanical modifications as needed.
  • Assist engineers in the setup and execution of mechanical (vibe/shock/temperature tests, etc) and electrical tests (lab bench equipment)
  • Support basic fabrication, 3D printing, or machining tasks as applicable
  • Maintain organization, cleanliness, and safety within the engineering lab.
  • Manage inventory of lab supplies, components, and tools; reorder materials as needed
  • Calibrate and maintain lab test equipment in coordinate with quality and engineering teams.
  • Enforce ESD-safe practices and lab safety protocol
  • Run 3D printer(s) to support rapid prototype development and engineering fixturing
  • Perform product level verification testing in support of engineering, sustaining, quality and production as needed.
  • Support transition of new products, test equipment, fixtures from design to production
  • Support testing in qualification of new products, with off-site testing if needed
  • Basic knowledge of CAD tools (3D modeling and/or viewing)
  • Ability to work individually and in a team environment
  • Produce quality work in a timely manner

What You Bring to Safran Federal Systems:
  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering technology, or related field; or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 2+ years of technician-level in an engineering or lab environment.
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and electrical schematics
  • Minimum 5 years' soldering experience with printed circuit boards preferred
  • IPC-610 & J-STD-001 Certification (nice to have, not required)
  • Experience with hand tools, lab instrumentation, and mechanical/electrical assembly practices
  • Familiar with test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, etc.
  • Strong attention to detail, documentation habits, and ability to follow test plans or schematics
  • Self-motivated and proactive individual.
  • Willing to consult the opinion of others and negotiate consensus where necessary.
  • Experience with suite of Microsoft products.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and suppliers
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • The ability to remain poised under all circumstances, and to interact effectively with people in a positive manner that engenders confidence and trust.
  • Ability to reason logically and make sound decisions, to consider alternative and diverse perspectives, to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
