Job Description

Hilo Benioff Medical Center, part of the East Hawaii Region of Hawaii Health Systems Corporation, is seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Professional Nurse (RPN) to join our Medical Unit team. In this role, you will provide high-quality, patient-centered care in an acute care setting while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to support positive patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care by assessing patient conditions, developing care plans, administering medications, and implementing treatments in accordance with physician orders.
  • Monitor and document patient status, including physical and psychosocial assessments, and communicate changes promptly to the healthcare team.
  • Coordinate patient care activities, including discharge planning, procedures with other departments, and continuity of care across shifts.
  • Educate patients and families on health conditions, treatment plans, medications, and post-discharge care.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and well-equipped environment while adhering to infection control and safety protocols.
  • Serve as a team leader or Charge Nurse as assigned, supporting staff coordination, delegation, and quality patient care delivery.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Nursing preferred).
  • Experience: At least six (6) months of professional nursing experience.
  • Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within one (1) month of hire.
  • Licensure: Current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Hawaiสปi.

Pre-Employment Health Requirements

Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes a drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
