Job Summary
The Registered Nurse - Core Measures is responsible for reviewing and abstracting clinical data from medical records for patients with diagnoses related to national core measures. This role supports hospital quality improvement efforts through accurate data abstraction, concurrent review, staff education, and participation in quality reporting initiatives. The RN collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other departments to promote compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards related to core measures and meaningful use.
Essential Functions
  • Abstract data from medical records of discharged and current inpatients based on core measure criteria.
  • Enter data accurately into designated databases such as COMET.
  • Conduct concurrent chart reviews and identify patients who meet core measure inclusion criteria.
  • Educate hospital and medical staff on core measure requirements and meaningful use initiatives.
  • Assist with planning, data collection, and reporting for quality management and improvement processes.
  • Collaborate with clinical leadership, medical staff, and informatics on improvement strategies.
  • Prepare reports, maintain records, and document interventions accurately.
  • Assist in quarterly Inter-Rater Reliability (IRR) reviews and regulatory readiness.
  • Support the Patient Portal and assist in monitoring related compliance requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct in all job functions.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations
  • Strong critical thinking, clinical judgment, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and electronic health records.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations, core measures, and meaningful use standards.
  • Ability to educate, lead, and influence clinical and non-clinical staff.

Qualifications
Education
  • Postsecondary (Cert/Diploma/Program Grad) from an accredited school of nursing (Required) And
  • Bachelor's Degree in nursing or related field (Preferred)

Licenses/Certifications
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the state of practice Upon Hire (Required) And
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire (Required)

Experience
  • 3+ years clinical nursing experience (Required) And
  • 1+ years management or quality experience (Preferred) And
  • Prior Experience with data abstraction and familiarity with healthcare quality databases (e.g. COMET) (Preferred)
