About the role

The Mechanical Sales Engineer is responsible for identifying, developing, and expanding business opportunities by delivering technical service solutions for mechanical maintenance, outage support, rotating equipment, pumps, valves, turbines, heat exchangers, and skilled labor services. Working closely with customers across the nuclear industry and other power generation markets, this role serves as a trusted advisor by aligning customer maintenance needs with TNC Services' specialized capabilities.

The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical engineering expertise with business development skills and is passionate about helping customers improve equipment reliability, outage performance, and long-term asset management. During scheduled outage seasons, this role may also perform hands-on mechanical field service work, supporting installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities at customer sites.

Responsibilities

Business Development & Account Management

  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with utility customers, maintenance organizations, engineering groups, plant leadership, and industry partners.
  • Identify new business opportunities within existing accounts while cultivating new customer relationships throughout assigned territories.
  • Maintain and grow existing customer accounts through proactive relationship management.
  • Manage multiple sales opportunities from prospecting through contract award.
  • Maintain an active sales pipeline and provide accurate forecasting through CRM tools.
  • Support contract negotiations while ensuring project profitability and customer satisfaction.

Technical Sales & Proposal Development

  • Promote mechanical maintenance, outage support, field services, and skilled workforce solutions.
  • Conduct customer meetings, site visits, and technical assessments to understand operational challenges and maintenance requirements.
  • Partner with customers and engineering teams to assess equipment needs and develop customized technical solutions.
  • Translate customer requirements into detailed technical proposals, scopes of work, estimates, pricing packages, and commercial quotations.
  • Deliver technical presentations and communicate complex mechanical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Project Support

  • Collaborate with Operations, Project Management, Recruiting, and field teams to develop project scopes and execution strategies.
  • Support customers through outage planning, maintenance scheduling, and workforce planning activities.
  • Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, competitor activities, and customer capital projects to identify new business opportunities.
  • Represent TNC Services at customer meetings, trade shows, industry conferences, and networking events.

Field Service Support (Outage Season)

  • Perform hands-on mechanical field work during scheduled plant outages as business needs require.
  • Support the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, inspection, and repair of mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Collaborate with field crews and site leadership to execute outage work safely, efficiently, and in accordance with customer schedules.
  • Ensure all field activities comply with applicable safety procedures, quality requirements, plant procedures, and regulatory standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Power Plant Technology, Industrial Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience.
  • 3-5+ years of experience in technical sales, application engineering, mechanical field services, industrial maintenance, or a related technical role.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems used in power generation or heavy industrial facilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, engineering drawings, equipment layouts, and technical specifications.
  • Experience preparing technical proposals, customer presentations, scopes of work, and cost estimates.
  • Strong knowledge of rotating equipment, pumps, valves, mechanical seals, heat exchangers, and related mechanical systems.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to translate customer needs into customized technical service solutions.
  • Ability to perform hands-on mechanical field work during outage assignments, including standing, climbing, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in industrial environments.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to travel to customer sites.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM platforms.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%, including extended outage assignments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting commercial nuclear power plants or other power generation facilities.
  • Experience with turbines, pumps, valves, compressors, heat exchangers, rotating equipment, mechanical seals, or precision maintenance.
  • Demonstrated success managing customer relationships within industrial or power generation markets.
  • Familiarity with mechanical diagnostic and testing equipment.
  • Experience supporting outage planning and execution.
  • Existing customer relationships within the nuclear or power generation industry.
  • Background selling industrial maintenance, outage, or field service solutions.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent technical certification.

 Work Environment & Travel

  • Hybrid role combining office-based sales activities, customer site visits, and seasonal field service work.
  • During scheduled outages, may be assigned to hands-on mechanical maintenance activities at customer sites, including extended hours and shift work.
  • Exposure to industrial and radiological environments while supporting commercial nuclear power plants and other power generation facilities; strict adherence to PPE, safety procedures, and quality standards is required.
  • Travel up to 50% for customer meetings, site assessments, outage support, and industry conferences.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain unescorted access authorization for commercial nuclear power plants, as required.

Estimated Starting Salary Range
The estimated starting salary range for this role is $118,000 - $140,000 annually less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a bi-weekly basis. The actual salary offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined in the Company's discretion, which may include experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications held, and other criteria deemed pertinent to the particular role.
