Executive Director

Reports To: Board of Directors

Start Date: October - December 2026

Children’s Smile Center (CSC) is a non-profit organization that operates dental clinics to serve the oral health needs for children from low-income families in Christian, Stone, Taney, Dade, Barry, and Lawrence Counties in Missouri. The Executive Director will:

  • Champion the Mission of CSC.

  • In conjunction with the Board of Directors, establish the overall strategy of the organization.

  • Establish and oversee the strategic and operational functions of all CSC programs and staff in the areas of dental operations, facilities, financial operations, community engagement, and fundraising.

  • Ensure that client needs are met at the very highest professional level of children’s oral health.

  • Serve as the face of CSC and represent its Mission and Core Values in all public settings.

What You’ll Do:

  • Uphold and honor the Company Mission, Vision, Core Values, and Objectives.

  • Follow all company policies and procedures.

  • Responsible for overseeing the planning, organizing, and directing of all CSC operations.

  • Report to the Board of Directors on a quarterly basis, a summary of:

    • Programs and services delivered to clients.

    • Financial performance (which could include income & expense statement, balance sheet, actual compared to budget).

    • Staffing and facility updates.

    • Community engagement and fundraising.

    • Future needs.

  • Monitor daily operations of the organization, providing executive direction for program strategies and efficiencies in conjunction with CSC management.

  • Oversee all accounting and bookkeeping functions of CSC.

    • Direct the work of the business manager as it relates to financial operations.

    • Monitor and consult with contracted accounting services for daily financial operations.

    • Provide quarterly financial reports to the Board of Directors.

    • Provide executive direction and decision-making for all financial operations, including corrective actions if needed.

  • Oversee and direct the management of all financial assets, including cash reserves and endowment funds.

  • In conjunction with CSC staff, initiate billing, monitor receivables and ensure payment of all expenses for all fundraising events.

  • Initiate and execute the annual CPA audit with opinion and the IRS Form 990 submission.

  • Prepare an annual budget and submit it to the Board of Directors at the annual meeting for approval.

    • Monitor monthly, comparing actual results to forecasted income and expenses.

    • Provide the Board on a quarterly basis any variances from the annual budget.

  • Champion a strong work culture that attracts and retains people while driving the organization’s mission.

    • Provide coaching and support for direct reports and when needed for all other employees.

    • Provide leadership to the management team in their responsibility to manage their staff.

    • Work with management to identify and address staffing requirements for efficient operations.

  • In conjunction with CSC staff, initiate and lead all fundraising efforts.

  • As the face of CSC, build and maintain relationships in conjunction with CSC staff, that result in appropriate fundraising success.

  • Oversee and monitor all CSC operations to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

What We’re Looking For:

  • 10 or more years of progressive leadership experience, with experience in nonprofit, healthcare, dental, or other mission-driven organizations preferred but not required.

  • Minimum of 5 or more years of management or supervisory experience.

  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills.

  • Strong understanding in financials and accounting.

  • Strong community engagement or being willing to be engaged in the community.

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Increasing the numbers of children who have successful oral health and/or receive quality dental services through and from CSC.

  • Build an annual budget plan that is approved by the Board of Directors.

  • Have the right people in the right jobs at CSC.

  • Be a successful non-profit organization:

  • Maintain a clear and well-documented Mission Statement

  • Maintain organizational documents for non-profit status, both state and federal.

  • Develop and maintain an independent, decision-making Board of Directors.

  • Ensure that systems are in place to promote transparency and accuracy in all financial statements and information reporting.

  • Transparency in all aspects of CSC operations.

  • Transparency in Executive Director and Board of Directors compensation

  • Submit the required IRS Form 990 annually.

  • Always be prepared for unannounced public inspections of IRS Form 990 and tax exemption documents.

Line of Advancement:

  • A successful Executive Director will assist the Board of Directors in selecting and orienting the new Executive Director for CSC.

  • Best practices would provide for the former Executive Director to continue in an advisory role as Executive Director Emeritus for CSC.
