Nature & Scope:
Positional Overview
We are seeking an experienced Director of Biomedical Services to lead a Biomedical Engineering department within a large healthcare organization. This individual will be responsible for the overall operation, strategic direction, regulatory compliance, equipment management, and staff leadership of the Biomedical Services function. The ideal candidate will bring a strong blend of healthcare technology management expertise, leadership capability, and operational excellence.
This role oversees a team of 12 direct reports and serves as a key partner to executive leadership, nursing, physicians, vendors, and clinical stakeholders to ensure the safe, effective, and compliant use of medical equipment throughout the organization.
Role & Responsibility:
Tasks That Will Lead To Your Success
  • Direct and oversee all Biomedical Engineering department operations
  • Manage installation, maintenance, calibration, inspection, and repair programs for biomedical equipment
  • Lead, coach, develop, and evaluate biomedical engineering personnel
  • Collaborate with executive leadership, nursing, and physicians regarding equipment strategy and operational needs
  • Develop specifications and evaluate new equipment acquisitions and technology investments
  • Implement policies and procedures supporting equipment safety, compliance, and utilization
  • Manage departmental budgets, capital planning, requisitions, and spending performance
  • Oversee vendor relationships, service agreements, and equipment contracts
  • Monitor equipment recalls and coordinate corrective actions
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, and patient safety requirements
  • Prepare operational reports, metrics, and department analyses
  • Drive proactive decision-making, accountability, and continuous improvement initiatives
Skills & Experience
Qualifications That Will Help You Thrive
  • Required Experience
  • 5+ years of biomedical equipment maintenance experience with progressive leadership responsibility
  • Experience leading biomedical engineering, clinical engineering, or healthcare technology management teams
  • Strong knowledge of medical equipment operations, maintenance, calibration, and inspection practices
  • Experience working within hospitals, health systems, or healthcare environments
  • Experience managing budgets, vendors, contracts, and capital equipment planning
  • Preferred Experience
  • CBET, CCE, or related certifications
  • Experience overseeing union and non-union technical teams
  • Knowledge of Alternative Equipment Maintenance (AEM) programs
  • Experience supporting imaging, patient monitoring, infusion, dialysis, and clinical equipment
  • Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Electronics, Electronics, Biomedical Engineering, or related field preferred
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
