Job description

Experienced Metal Installer (Non-Exempt)

Location: San Diego County
Pay Range: $22-$28 per hour (DOE)

Skyhook Metal Designs dba Skyhook Stairs amp; Rails is a specialty contracting company focused on the design, fabrication, and installation of custom stair and railing systems, miscellaneous metals, and light structural steel. We are seeking an experienced Metal Installer to support field installation operations on residential and commercial projects throughout San Diego County.

This is a non-exempt, hourly position and is not entry-level.

Position Summary

The Metal Installer is responsible for the on-site installation of custom stair and railing systems, ensuring accuracy, quality, and craftsmanship. Installers work closely with the Shop Manager, Field Superintendent, and Project Managers to deliver high-quality results from shop to site while maintaining safety and professionalism.

Essential Duties amp; Responsibilities
  • Install custom stairs, guardrails, handrails, and other miscellaneous metal components per approved shop drawings and field measurements
  • Read and interpret fabrication drawings, layout details, and installation plans
  • Perform precise field alignments, adjustments, and final fit to achieve proper finish and functionality
  • Safely operate power tools, grinders, drills, and rigging equipment
  • Coordinate with field supervisors, project managers, and other trades on active job sites
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and professional work area at all times
  • Follow all OSHA, job site, and company safety policies and procedures
Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years of metal installation experience (stairs, railings, or similar architectural metalwork)
  • Strong blueprint reading, layout, and measurement skills
  • Basic welding and metal finishing experience preferred
  • Valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move materials up to 75 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to work at heights and in active construction environments
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred or willingness to obtain
Compensation amp; Employment Status
  • Hourly, non-exempt position
  • Competitive pay based on experience ($22-$28/hour)
  • Overtime paid in accordance with California law, including daily and weekly overtime
  • Eligible for company benefits, including medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Eligible to participate in the Company’s SIMPLE IRA retirement plan with up to a 3% employer match
  • Benefits available following completion of a 90-day introductory period
  • Paid holidays for company-observed holidays and paid sick leave in accordance with California law
  • Employment is at-will and may be terminated by either party at any time, with or without cause or notice, subject to applicable law
