Job description

General Summary The Equipment Operator 1 works at a variety of BREC parks and facilities, operating light to heavy equipment and tools, performing and leading maintenance and repair work. Requirements and Job Specifications No formal education required. Must read & write to receive work instructions.

Must also have: Valid Louisiana Driver's License 1 year related work experience operating equipment Mechanical aptitude and excellent driving record required Good interpersonal & organizational skills with ability to prioritize and inspect work Must have a positive attitude with the willingness and desire to learn new skills Ability to operate light power maintenance tools and equipment such as small tractors, box scrappers, riding mowers, and attachments, etc. Ability to adjust to changing work demands, procedures, technology, and/or priorities Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public Functions and Duties Operates variety of commercial type equipment including, but not limited to; riding mowers, trucks, trailers, tractors with various attachments, aerifiers, blowers, pressure washer, powered hand tools, and other related maintenance equipment in order to maintain parks, athletic fields, and other facilities. Cleans and performs basic preventative maintenance/repairs to assigned equipment, and prepares equipment for operations.(Washes, fuels, oils, lubes, clean/change air filters, etc.) Repairs and maintains playground equipment, athletic field maintenance and set-up, and performs other repairs as directed

Grades, fills, levels park surfaces, digs/fills ditch, loads dirt/sand/gravel/brush/debris and other materials onto trucks. Cut/load/remove tree limbs. Drives trucks and trailers loaded with equipment from site to site.

Directs and inspects work of assigned crews, guides others, relays assignments as required or under direction/instruction of supervisor(s). Other duties as assigned Supplemental Information As assigned, within general framework of 8 hours per day, 5 days per week; meal break as required, overtime, weekend and holiday work required occasionally.
