How much do no experience mechanical engineering jobs pay per year?

As of May 28, 2026, the average yearly pay for no experience mechanical engineering in the United States is $102,878.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $81,500.00 and $126,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a No Experience Mechanical Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a No Experience Mechanical Engineer, you need a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field, along with a solid grasp of fundamental engineering principles. Familiarity with CAD software (such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD), basic simulation tools, and Microsoft Office is typically expected. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, eagerness to learn, and effective communication help new engineers adapt quickly and collaborate with teams. These skills and qualities are vital for contributing to projects, solving engineering problems, and building a successful foundation in the field.

What types of entry-level projects or tasks can I expect as a mechanical engineer with no prior experience?

As a mechanical engineer starting out with no prior experience, you will likely be assigned to support more senior engineers on a variety of tasks. This can include assisting with CAD modeling, creating technical drawings, conducting basic calculations, preparing documentation, and supporting prototype assembly or testing. You may also participate in team meetings, help troubleshoot minor design issues, and learn about company-specific processes and software. These tasks are designed to help you build a strong foundation and gradually increase your technical and project responsibilities.

What is the difference between No Experience Mechanical Engineering vs Mechanical Technician?

AspectNo Experience Mechanical EngineeringMechanical Technician
Required CredentialsHigh school diploma or associate's; on-the-job trainingHigh school diploma; technical certification or diploma often preferred
Work EnvironmentDesign offices, labs, or manufacturing settingsManufacturing plants, maintenance facilities, or workshops
Employer & Industry UsageEntry-level roles in engineering firms, manufacturing, or R&DMaintenance, assembly, and repair in industrial settings

In summary, No Experience Mechanical Engineering roles are entry-level positions focused on supporting engineering projects with minimal formal experience, often in design or development environments. Mechanical Technicians typically work hands-on in maintenance or assembly, requiring technical certifications but less emphasis on engineering design. Both roles serve different functions but can be entry points into the mechanical industry.

Job description

Mechanical Engineering AI Trainer
About the Role
We're looking for mechanical engineers to help train and evaluate cutting-edge AI models being developed by the world's leading AI research labs. Your deep technical knowledge will directly shape how AI understands and reasons through complex engineering problems - from fluid dynamics to structural mechanics.
This is a rare opportunity to step outside traditional engineering work and make a lasting impact on the future of artificial intelligence - all on your own schedule, from anywhere in the world.
  • Organization
    : Alignerr
  • Type
    : Hourly Contract
  • Location
    : Remote
  • Commitment
    : 10-40 hours/week
  • What You'll Do
    • Design Complex Engineering Problems
      - Craft advanced, domain-specific problems across areas like FEA, heat transfer, kinematics, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and material science to rigorously test AI reasoning and performance
    • Author Ground-Truth Solutions
      - Write precise, step-by-step technical solutions that serve as benchmarks for AI learning, ensuring accuracy and adherence to engineering standards (ASME, ISO, etc.)
    • Audit AI-Generated Outputs
      - Evaluate AI-produced CAD logic, thermodynamic proofs, and material specifications for technical correctness, physical plausibility, and safety
    • Refine AI Reasoning
      - Identify logical errors such as incorrect force distributions, energy conservation violations, or flawed material assumptions, and provide structured feedback to improve model performance
    • Work Independently
      - Manage your own workload asynchronously with full flexibility over your schedule
    • Who You Are
      • Pursuing or holding a Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field
      • Strong foundational knowledge in one or more core areas: solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing processes
      • Able to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and precisely in written form
      • Highly detail-oriented - comfortable verifying mathematical derivations, unit conversions, and physical system constraints
      • Self-motivated and reliable when working independently
      • No prior AI experience required
      Nice to Have
      • Experience with data annotation, data quality evaluation, or technical review workflows
      • Proficiency in engineering software such as SolidWorks, MATLAB, or ANSYS
      • Familiarity with engineering simulation, FEA, or computational fluid dynamics workflows
      Why Join Us
      • Work on genuinely cutting-edge AI projects alongside top research labs
      • Fully remote and flexible - work when and where you want
      • Gain rare, first-hand exposure to how advanced large language models (LLMs) are trained and evaluated
      • Freelance autonomy: no meetings, no commute, no micromanagement
      • Collaborate with a global team of technical experts
      • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension
