Job description

IT Systems Administrator

Position Overview:

Our client, a titan in the Canadian transportation and logistics industry with a legacy spanning nearly 70 years, is seeking a high-impact IT Systems Administrator to join their Winnipeg-based team. Shifting away from traditional desktop support, this pivotal role focuses on the core health and optimization of a national Microsoft 365 environment and robust virtualization infrastructure. Reporting to the IT leadership, you will move beyond standard troubleshooting to architect and manage the backend systems that keep 50 terminals across the country moving. If you are a self-driven technical expert who thrives on maintaining high-availability environments and modernizing cloud workflows, this is your next career move.

Responsibilities:

  • M365 Powerhouse: Act as the primary architect and administrator for the Microsoft 365 tenant, overseeing user identities, security protocols, and cloud application integration.
  • Virtualization Mastery: Design and maintain high-performance virtual environments utilizing VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V to ensure zero-downtime operations.
  • Data Integrity: Lead enterprise-wide backup and disaster recovery strategies specifically using Veeam to safeguard critical corporate data.
  • Escalated Support: Serve as the final line of defense for complex hardware and software challenges that exceed standard Level 1 and 2 protocols.
  • Lifecycle Leadership: Drive the procurement, migration, and rollout of modern hardware assets while maintaining rigorous inventory and licensing accuracy.
  • Infrastructure Oversight: Management of networked peripherals, mobile device platforms (Airwatch), and cloud-based communication systems across a national footprint.

Requirements:

  • Technical Depth: Expert-level command of Windows Server environments, Microsoft 365, and Windows 11.
  • Proven Toolkit: Hands-on experience with VMware, Hyper-V, and Veeam Backup & Replication is essential.
  • Experience: A minimum of three (3) years in a progressive Systems Administration or advanced IT Support role.
  • Education: Post-secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science, IT, or a proven equivalent of advanced field experience.
  • Operational Skills: Familiarity with enterprise tools like Atlassian JIRA, ConnectWise, and security platforms like FortiEDR.
  • Soft Skills: Top-tier communication skills with a focus on building relationships and providing a "customer-first" internal experience.
  • The Essentials: This is a full-time, permanent onsite position in Winnipeg; candidates must be eligible to travel within Canada as required.

Rewards:

  • Competitive compensation commensurate with experience.
  • Opportunity to work with a stable, privately-held national leader.
  • Comprehensive benefits and a professional, team-oriented work culture
