Night Machine Operator information

What are some common challenges faced by Night Machine Operators, and how can they be managed?

Night Machine Operators often encounter challenges such as staying alert during overnight shifts, troubleshooting equipment issues independently, and maintaining safety standards with reduced on-site supervision. To manage these challenges, it's important to establish a consistent sleep schedule, practice good communication with both night and day teams, and become familiar with the company's safety protocols. Many employers also provide training and support resources to help operators handle machine malfunctions and ensure smooth handoffs between shifts.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Night Machine Operator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Night Machine Operator, you need a solid understanding of machine operation, mechanical aptitude, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with CNC machines, safety protocols, and production tracking software is commonly required, along with any relevant certifications. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently during night shifts are important soft skills. These abilities ensure efficient, safe, and uninterrupted production during off-hours, maintaining operational quality and meeting output goals.

What are Night Machine Operators?

Night Machine Operators are skilled workers who operate and monitor machinery in manufacturing or production facilities during nighttime hours. Their responsibilities typically include setting up machines, performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring products meet quality standards. Working overnight, they help keep production lines running smoothly when most daytime staff are not present. Safety, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently are important qualities for this role.

Job Description
At Avery Dennison, we are "Making Possible." We are seeking a Production Machine Operator who is mechanically curious, takes ownership of their equipment, and thrives in a performance-driven environment.
Located in the Greenfield industrial corridor, our facility is easily accessible from I-70, making it a quick 20-minute commute for talent coming from East Indianapolis, Shelbyville, or Anderson. If you are looking for a high-paying role outside the heavy traffic of Marion County, this is your next career move.
Your Impact
As a Production Machine Operator of our manufacturing lines, you will:
  • Lead Machine Operations: Perform set-ups, changeovers, and monitor equipment to meet production targets.
  • Troubleshoot & Improve: Identify root causes of malfunctions rather than applying "band-aid" fixes.
  • Ensure Precision: Use tape measures and tools to maintain close tolerances and "zero-defect" quality.
  • Drive Safety & Teamwork: Prioritize a safety-first mindset and step in to help coworkers meet site goals.

What You Bring
  • Accountability: You take pride in your work and learn from every challenge.
  • Technical Aptitude: You enjoy understanding how machines work.
  • Adaptability: You can pivot quickly when production priorities shift.
  • Reliability: You are dependable and value a consistent attendance record.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED OR 3+ years of manufacturing experience.

Additional Information
Physical Requirements:
  • Movement: May require the ability to stand/walk for up to 80% of your shift, with frequent pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, and squatting 50% of the time.
  • Lifting: May require the ability to lift up to 50 pounds 50% of your shift.
  • Environment: May require being comfortable working in an environment with varying temperatures.

Important Note:
  • Reasonable Accommodations: We are committed to providing reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities. If you require any accommodations to perform the essential functions of this job, please let us know during the application process.
  • Pre-Hire Medical Questionnaire: Upon accepting a role, you will be required to complete a pre-hire medical questionnaire. This is a standard procedure to ensure your ability to safely perform the job's physical demands and to identify any potential health concerns.
  • Falsification of Medical Information: Falsifying information on the medical questionnaire is a serious offense and may lead to disciplinary actions up to and including termination.

Additional Consideration:
  • Safety: We prioritize the safety of all our employees. We provide comprehensive safety training and a safe working environment.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, protected veteran status, or other protected status. EEOE/M/F/Vet/Disabled. All your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
Reasonable Accommodations Notice
If you require accommodations to view or apply for a job, alternative methods are available to submit an application. Please contact (440) 534-6000 or [email protected] to discuss reasonable accommodations.
As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and productive work environment, Avery Dennison requires all final candidates to successfully complete a comprehensive background check and a drug screening. These checks are conducted post-offer and are a condition of employment. All results will be considered in accordance with applicable local, state, and federal laws.
