What is a night desk?

Night Desk jobs typically involve working at the front desk or reception area of a facility, such as a hotel, apartment building, or office, during nighttime hours. Responsibilities include greeting visitors, managing check-ins and check-outs, answering phones, handling emergencies, and ensuring the security of the premises. Night Desk staff often work independently and must be vigilant, organized, and able to handle unexpected situations that may arise during the night.

What are the typical responsibilities and challenges faced by someone working at a night desk?

Working at a Night Desk typically involves tasks such as greeting and assisting guests, handling check-ins and check-outs during late hours, managing reservations, and ensuring building security. One of the main challenges in this role is balancing multiple responsibilities independently during quieter shifts, while remaining alert for any emergencies or unexpected situations. The work environment is often quieter than daytime hours, but it requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to resolve issues efficiently with limited on-site support.

Job description

Description
We are hiring a Night Auditor!
We are looking for people passionate about serving others! Working at the front desk puts you at the hub of the hotel, with the most interaction with our guests. The department is open 24/7....so each front desk role is as important as the others. Front desk associates are key to the overall guest experience. As the late shift, you essentially work without management supervision, so your responsibility is even greater as you help close out the business for the day and check guests in and out during non-traditional hours. Your proactive, responsive, and caring approach will make all the difference. The night shift also ensures guests have a safe stay by monitoring abnormal activity inside and outside the hotel and watching for weather issues that could threaten our resting guests. If you enjoy working semi-independently from others and have a winning personality and high sense of responsibility - this role is perfect for you! We have a great company culture at the Raleigh Marriott City Center where everyone is valued and treated with respect. Sunday night availability is mandatory for this position.

Perform Check-in and Check-out procedures
Administer guest payment policies and look for errors from the day shifts
Prepare folios for the morning departing guests
Maintain overall lobby appearance and assist with AM breakfast set up if needed
