Job description

Position Summary

The Infrastructure Engineer is a senior-level individual contributor responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing management of complex IT infrastructure across NGEN’s internal environment and client-facing engagements.


This role serves as a technical authority and hands-on engineer, balancing direct infrastructure work with architectural guidance and junior staff mentorship. The ideal candidate is proactive, self-directed, and capable of operating independently under the direction of the Head of Technology and Security.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Infrastructure Engineering

  • Design, deploy, and maintain Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 environments (commercial, GCC, GCC-High), including identity, security, and collaboration workloads
  • Configure and manage SonicWall firewalls, including rule sets, VPN, and security policies
  • Monitor and revise Power Automate workflows to ensure consistent results
  • Deploy, monitor, and remediate backups
  • Administer HP Aruba switching infrastructure, including VLANs, routing, and network segmentation
  • Manage on-premises and datacenter infrastructure, proactively identifying and resolving hardware, OS, and software issues for Windows and Linux servers
  • Ensure client environments maintain uptime targets and meet established SLA requirements

Security & Compliance

  • Collaborate with the security team to identify, remediate, and prevent vulnerabilities across client and internal environments
  • Apply security best practices across infrastructure design and configuration
  • Support compliance initiatives as directed

Architecture & Strategy

  • Define and maintain technology standards and best practices aligned with organizational and client objectives
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and make informed recommendations on adoption
  • Contribute to build vs. buy decisions with consideration for cost, scalability, and compatibility


Mentorship & Collaboration

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff
  • Collaborate with project managers, business stakeholders, and client contacts to translate requirements into technical solutions
  • Maintain strong working relationships across internal teams and with external vendors and partners
  • Promote a professional, client-ready working environment


Qualifications

Required

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in IT infrastructure engineering
  • Demonstrated expertise with Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 administration
  • Demonstrated experience with On-prem and Hybrid Microsoft Active Directory deployments
  • Experience with VMWare and Hyper-V virtualization
  • Expertise with Windows Server 2016-2025, SuSE Linux, and Windows 11
  • Experience configuring and managing SonicWall firewall environments
  • Experience managing Pure Storage
  • Demonstrated experience deploying, monitoring, and remediating Veeam, Veeam One, and Veeam 365 backups
  • Experience with HP Aruba or comparable enterprise switching platforms
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities with minimal supervision

Preferred

  • Relevant certifications: Microsoft (AZ-500, MS-500, or equivalent), SonicWall SNSA/SNSPA, or Aruba certifications
  • Experience in an MSP environment
  • Familiarity with CMMC, NIST 800-171, NIST 800-53, ISO20000-1, ISO27001, or similar compliance frameworks
