Associate Numerical Control Programmer (Machining/Tooling)

Boeing Commercial Airplanes is hiring an Associate Level Automation and Robotic Programmer to support a position on our Production Engineering team in Portland, Oregon A successful candidate in this role will have passion, creativity, and an insatiable desire for process improvement and efficiency. They will also have a strong desire to be out in the factory, interacting with mechanics, safety, and equipment services, and directly supporting the production system.

In Production Engineering, we need highly responsible professionals committed to upholding the highest standards of safety, quality, and integrity. Candidates should possess knowledge and technical expertise with ABB RobotStudio, ABB robots, KUKA robots, Fanuc robots, etc., automation control systems, design, machining, and robot cell programming.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Communicate and consult with internal and external stakeholders to develop technical requirements for development, support, and improvement of new and existing robotics systems.

  • Identify equipment and approaches for automation process specifications.

  • Lead resolution of ABB robot cell equipment and production process problems.

  • Provide expertise in numerical control, machining, programming and Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) in support of new and ongoing projects.

  • Robot cell development and implementation, integration programming, path programming, operations support, and process documentation of primarily ABB robot cell systems, tooling, and production processes.

  • Engage leadership, and contributors (e.g., IE, PE, ME, Equipment Services, QE, project management, BR&T) and Operations stakeholders to collaborate about automation opportunities.

  • Collaborate to specify, design, qualify, and implement robotic cells, end effectors, fixtures, and control systems

  • Working knowledge of robot system- and path-programming.

  • Train Equipment Services mechanics and technicians.

  • Ability to utilize or create source geometry for generation of machine control data (MCD) for a variety of equipment, materials, parts and assemblies.

  • Ability to verify MCD and create documentation to support manufacturing processes.

  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings and specifications (e.g., blueprint/schematic reading, specification, change, design).

  • Apprise business unit of goals, developments, milestones, and accomplishments.

  • Establishes technical requirements for manufacturing and producibility.

  • Plans and guides the development and integration of machining techniques, manufacturing methods, processes, software and equipment to support the design, manufacture and inspection of parts and assemblies.

  • Identifies equipment and approaches, coordinates and assigns work and trains/mentors others.

  • Works under general direction.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Experience with high-speed machining in a production environment

  • Ability to read, understand and interpret engineering drawings

  • 1 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience as machinist/robotics with shop floor programming skills

  • Experience in CAD/CAM software (preferred CATIA, Vericut simulation, MasterCAM, Robot Studio, CENIT, etc )

  • Certification or training in automation or robotics

  • Experience working in a production environment

  • Experience with 3D modeling
