Network Engineer Job Description :


The Network Engineer position is a technical position responsible for performing various work functions in support of the Boeing network. The engineer will be supporting the client remotely from Acuative’s Strongsville, OH office. This position will require in-depth technical knowledge to facilitate the design, install, and management of enterprise networking solutions and associated components. This will include the high-level input on system architecture and design changes, analysis and resolution of networking hardware, software, and routing issues.
Along with this knowledge, it is imperative that the incumbent understands Boeing’s business goals and management’s objectives and priorities. The incumbent collaborates to develop solutions for supporting the large and diverse user community’s needs within the constraints of the business requirements and Infrastructure Services Portfolio of offerings.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for configuration, implementation, and support for network installations as necessary.
  • Provide network support and troubleshooting network solutions for a large enterprise network, including the WAN, MAN and DC components.
  • Work with customers, vendors, and technical teams to prospect and develop network design, installation, and support opportunities.
  • Maintaining an established work schedule and availability for scheduled implementations including nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation as it relates to network technologies, network topology, network equipment, and configuration(s). Ability to document standards, methods and produce drawings of environments.
  • Provide timely and accurate project status updates to customer contacts and management.
  • Analyze system reports, error logs and activity and initiate system enhancements as needed.
  • Provide Engineering level support for incident and problem management.
  • Interact with customers and establish customer relationships to gather and analyze customer needs, assess available resources, and determine optimal solutions.
  • Assist PMs with developing project plans incorporating resource estimates for project tasks and manage projects as assigned.
  • Collaborate with senior members of the client’s infrastructure teams.
  • Advise management on technology roadmaps, evaluate vendor products, and make recommendations on product/service selection and current system upgrades.
  • Train, educate and mentor junior staff, as necessary.
  • Participate in after-hours upgrades, troubleshooting, and/or on-call availability.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • 5- 8 years of experience in Network Engineering.
  • Cisco CCNP certification (required).
  • Strong understanding of the following technical skills:
    • L2: VLANs/dot1q.
    • IP routing protocols (Static, OSPF, EIGRP).
    • BGP incl route attributes, route preference and route filtering.
    • Routing redistribution and filtering.
    • ACLs/route maps/prefix-lists/ASN access-lists.
    • QoS.
    • MPLS/VRFs.
    • IPsec, GRE, GETVPN, DMVPN.
    • IP Multicast.
    • Physical connectivity and fiber (SM/MM/Connector Types/ODF/SFPs/Basic optics/racking equipment/power/cooling and air flows).
    • Network services (DNS/DHCP).
  • Experience with large-scale Cisco enterprise networking solutions including design, implementation, and support.
  • Experience and knowledge of the different Cisco product lines and positioning of each.
  • Familiarity with SDWAN.
  • Familiarity with Cloud Services including AWS, Azure, or OCI.
  • Familiarity with SASE solutions such Palo Alto Prisma and ZScaler.
  • 5-7 years of experience installing, upgrading, and maintaining Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent design and architecture skills.
  • Good problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience maintaining network performance through network monitoring and analysis.
  • Familiarity with IP Telephony, Linux, Python, Elastic Search and SolarWinds monitoring tools.
  • Knowledge of carrier services and interfaces.
  • Proficient in customer knowledge transfer and documentation (HLD/LLD/NIP/NRFU/MOP/Migration Plan).
  • Strong attention to detail in-regard to project planning and documentation.
  • Ability to apply judgment, implement solutions, and resolve conflicts, all in a multi-tasked environment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and with written documentation.
  • Ability to handle a growing, fast paced environment.
