THE POSITION
The Network Engineer (Intermediate) provides technical expertise in the planning, implementation, operation, and maintenance of network infrastructure. The position supports enterprise network operations, monitoring, configuration management, troubleshooting, and maintenance of routers, switches, and network security devices within classified environments.


Responsibilities include supporting operational network infrastructure, maintaining network availability, coordinating with external organizations and vendors, and ensuring compliance with DoD and DISA cybersecurity policies while sustaining mission-critical communications supporting contract operations.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform network operations support, including planning, allocating, deploying, monitoring, and troubleshooting network infrastructure supporting JSSC managed systems.
  • Configure and maintain enterprise network devices including Cisco routers, Cisco switches, and associated network infrastructure components supporting mission systems.
  • Implement and maintain routing tables, VLAN configurations, and Access Control Lists (ACLs) to ensure proper network segmentation and secure communications.
  • Monitor network performance using enterprise network management tools to identify anomalies, performance degradation, or outages affecting operational systems.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and root cause analysis for network incidents impacting JSSC Command and Control (C2) systems.
  • Coordinate with external organizations including Joint Service Provider (JSP), communications units, and equipment vendors to resolve network infrastructure issues.
  • Evaluate and recommend network hardware or infrastructure upgrades to enhance reliability and performance of JSSC networks.
  • Conduct stand-alone testing of new network equipment or upgrades in test environments prior to implementation within operational networks.
  • Maintain daily network operations logs and weekly maintenance schedules documenting operational events, network changes, and maintenance activities.
  • Support configuration control processes and follow established Change Advisory Board (CAB) procedures for network changes.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Position located on-site at the Pentagon
  • DAY shift position
Requirements:
  • Active Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility; AND,
  • Security+ Certification; AND,
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in network engineering, network infrastructure operations, or communications network management supporting enterprise or large-scale network environments.
  • Experience supporting the design, implementation, monitoring, and troubleshooting of enterprise network infrastructure, including LAN/WAN environments.
  • DoD IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+)
  • Experience configuring and managing Cisco routers, Cisco switches, and Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) in enterprise environments.
  • Ability to configure, monitor, and troubleshoot network infrastructure including routing, switching, access control lists (ACLs), VLANs, and network performance monitoring tools.
  • Experience supporting network infrastructure in classified DoD environments with strict configuration control and change management procedures.
  • Ability to coordinate with external organizations, vendors, and network operations centers to resolve infrastructure issues affecting operational systems.

PREFERRERD:

  • Hands-on experience with Cisco routing and switching platforms in enterprise or DoD environments.
  • Experience with Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) for network access control, authentication, and policy management.
  • Experience supporting classified networks (SIPRNet / TS environments) or mission-critical DoD communications infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with network monitoring and management tools used to collect performance metrics and support operational analysis.
  • Knowledge of ITIL-based incident, problem, and change management practices used within enterprise IT operations environments.
  • Experience supporting high availability and mission-critical network architectures supporting command and control systems.
