The Network Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and support of Rockland Trust's enterprise network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, wireless, and network security technologies. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the reliability, performance, availability, and security of the Bank's network environment across corporate offices, branch locations, remote sites, and data centers.

Working closely with IT and Information Security teams, the Network Engineer will troubleshoot complex network issues, implement infrastructure enhancements, support business continuity initiatives, and help maintain a secure and scalable network environment. The ideal candidate is a collaborative problem-solver with strong technical expertise and a commitment to delivering exceptional service and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

As a Network Engineer, you will leverage your networking expertise to maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot network infrastructure across corporate offices, branch locations, remote sites, and data centers.

  • Configure, install, and support network devices and services, including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPNs, and Network Access Control (NAC) solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to routing, switching, servers, telephony systems, and LAN/WAN connectivity.
  • Perform system upgrades, firmware updates, and patching of network appliances as appropriate.
  • Monitor network performance, availability, and reliability using network monitoring and diagnostic tools (e.g., PRTG, Gigamon, Riverbed).
  • Adhere to established configuration and change management processes to ensure network stability and compliance.
  • Support the implementation of security tools, policies, and procedures in partnership with the Information Security team.
  • Respond to and resolve escalated Help Desk tickets related to network infrastructure.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date network diagrams, documentation, and operational procedures.
  • Implement network device hardening standards in accordance with CIS benchmarks and vendor best practices.
  • Identify opportunities to improve network performance, security, and operational efficiency.
  • Assist with vulnerability remediation efforts and patch management service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Collaborate with vendors and consultants on network-related projects and business continuity initiatives.
  • Partner with IT team members to ensure high levels of system availability and operational effectiveness.
  • Install, support, and maintain routing, switching, and security/VPN technologies within WAN and LAN environments.
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation and be available to respond to critical network issues outside of regular business hours, including occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education, technical training, certifications, and relevant work experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in network engineering, network administration, or a related infrastructure support role.
  • Proven hands-on experience administering and troubleshooting enterprise LAN/WAN environments.
  • Experience supporting complex network environments in a multi-site organization is preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of routing and switching technologies; experience with Juniper networking solutions is a plus.
  • Familiarity with SD-WAN technologies and architectures.
  • Knowledge of networking protocols such as IPSec, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, and QoS.
  • Solid understanding of the OSI and TCP/IP networking models.
  • Experience using network monitoring, diagnostic, and analytics tools.
  • Working knowledge of VLANs, trunking, and Spanning Tree Protocol (STP).
  • Experience with Access Control Lists (ACLs), Fortinet firewalls, VPN technologies, and network security best practices.
  • Experience creating and maintaining network documentation using Microsoft Visio or similar tools.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and documentation practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a dynamic environment.

Preferred Certifications

  • Professional certifications such as CCNA, Fortinet certifications, or other relevant networking and security certifications are a plus.
