Overview
About Department 475
Department 475 is responsible for managing the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program (NNPP) Network (NNPP Net) at Electric Boat. The EB LAN portion of the NNPP Net consists of Electric Boat users across the country including the east coast and pacific northwest. The network is expanding to support many changes including new construction, maintenance and modernization contracts, and to meet changing security requirements.
D475 seeks a highly motivated and experienced individual to join its IT team. This role requires in-depth knowledge and experience with network configuration and management. The successful candidate will work in a technically diverse environment with a team of system administrators responsible for a primarily Windows network. The group is responsible for the installation, configuration, management, and maintenance of the LAN including ensuring its security and availability to users across the network. The individual's main responsibilities will involve supporting network infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
  • Installing and configuring network routers, firewalls (Palo Alto) and managed switches (Cisco)
  • Installing and configuring TACLANE encryptors
  • Campus Fiber Planning/Projects
  • Working with teams to implement cyber security initiatives including network firewalls
  • Network security patching and vulnerability management
  • Attending training sessions to maintain and improve skillsets as well as cross-train peers
  • Lead network related projects involving multiple teams
  • Other tasks and duties as needed

This position requires implementing government standard configurations to network equipment. It provides team members with challenging work and a means to continue gaining technical skills and broadening their experience throughout their career.
The position requires regular physical access to network devices throughout the Groton shipyard and the New London, Kings Highway and Quonset Point, RI campuses so a lot of walking and local travel is required. Occasional travel to the secondary locations is expected. This includes sites from MD to GA and the west coast.
This position is 100% on-site. No remote option.
Qualifications
Required
  • High school Diploma/GED
  • 5+ years of engineering experience post graduation supporting an IT infrastructure that supports multiple physical locations.
  • Experience working with Cisco routing and switching technologies
  • Experience cabling and testing, troubleshooting, and repairing copper and fiber issues.
  • Documented experience with several of the following:
    • TACACS
    • 802.1x/MAB
    • SNMP
    • NetFlow
    • Syslog
    • DNS
    • DHCP
    • Network Troubleshooting
    • Data networking (Layer 2/Layer 3) and enterprise network environments
    • Network design and architecture
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance, including a Single Source Background Investigation.
  • This position is 100% on site with no remote option.

Preferred
  • Bachelor's of Science degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related Engineering field.
  • Certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Technician (CCT) Routing & Switching, and Cisco Certified Network Associate Automation
  • Advanced certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
  • Experience working with DOD STIG requirements
  • Knowledge and/or experience with DevOps tools such as Python, Ansible, and Git
  • Large-scale Service Provider Network experience
  • Active Secret Security
