Position Overview
Position: Service Business Development Manager
Location: Western United States (Primary focus: CA, UT, CO- Remote role but must reside in this territory)
Rust Automation & Controls is seeking a motivated Service Business Development professional to grow and support the service business across the Rust region. This role focuses on developing service opportunities within the existing customer base, prospecting new accounts, and supporting large-scale and solutions-based industrial projects from conception through the maintenance lifecycle.
Key objectives include:
  • Growing service revenue within the existing customer base
  • Prospecting new accounts through meetings that build awareness for future opportunities
  • Reviewing the installed base to identify and strategize service prospects
  • Aligning service strategies with future industrial projects (IIR)
  • Collaborating with the Sales Team to identify, vet, and develop opportunities
  • Supporting service opportunities from initial concept through commissioning and ongoing maintenance

Role & Responsibilities
The Service Business Development Manager will support customers across the Rust region, working closely with Sales, Service Coordination, and Service Management teams to build and execute a strong service pipeline.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Working with existing customers to grow service and calibration business
  • Prospecting and developing new service opportunities through customer meetings and site visits
  • Reviewing current installed base equipment to identify service and lifecycle opportunities
  • Vetting new and previous service opportunities
  • Following up on large-scale open opportunities via email, phone, and on-site engagement
  • Conducting high-priority customer-facing visits to support opportunity development
  • Performing site walk-downs to establish full project scope and requirements
  • Creating budgets, quotes, and formal proposals for service opportunities
  • Establishing service opportunities that support site commissioning and future calibration needs
  • Focusing calibration development within the Life Sciences and Food & Beverage industries
  • Serving as the liaison between the Service Team, Sales Team, and the customer
  • Acting as the primary customer point of contact for service-related activities
  • Working closely with Service Coordination and Management to establish and maintain a strong pipeline
  • Providing focused support on large-scale projects once awarded
  • Providing focused support on solutions-based projects once awarded
  • Participating in service opportunities from conception through the maintenance cycle
  • Applying strong project management skills to ensure successful service execution
  • Maintaining accurate CRM data, reporting, and timelines using Salesforce and NetSuite

Qualifications & Profile
  • Former service technician and/or engineering background (preferred)
  • Strong high-level understanding of industrial service disciplines and offerings
  • Ability to clearly articulate service solutions to customers and internal teams
  • Demonstrated strengths in service-based project management
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with key accounts
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage opportunities independently
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and prioritization skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout the Rust region
  • Travel region includes:
    • CA, CO, HI, ID, ND, NV, MT, UT, WY, and Guam
    • Primary emphasis on CA, UT, and CO
  • Requires reasonable access to a major airport
