Job description

The Purchasing Director is the first dedicated hire within our growing Purchasing Department. This is a senior, high-impact position for someone who combines deep procurement expertise with a business development mindset. You are not a traditional buyer. You are someone who can walk into a vendor relationship, negotiate a deal, build a contract, and bring real value back to our clients and to Prime Source.

You will own day-to-day vendor execution across all categories, lead and grow a procurement support team, and serve as the primary operational point of contact between Prime Source, its vendor partners, and its clients. This is not a remote role, we work in-person, we move fast, and we expect results.

Who we are:

Prime Source Expense Experts, a Buyers Edge Platform brand, is a national GPO consulting firm helping post-acute care facilities - skilled nursing, assisted living, and rehabilitation centers, reduce costs and optimize vendor relationships across every operational category. We are growing rapidly and building out a dedicated Purchasing Department to match the scale of our member network. Buyers Edge Platform is a leading digital procurement network and solutions provider for the foodservice industry, delivering savings, insights, and technology that help operators, distributors, and manufacturers succeed. Through its portfolio of solutions-including Digital Procurement Network, Fresh Services, Software Solutions, and Supply Chain Management-Buyers Edge is reshaping how the foodservice industry connects and thrives. At the heart of our work is a culture built on a passion for collaboration, technology, and helping foodservice business succeed.

We are unable to offer work sponsorship for this role.

Your Impact:ย

Vendor Strategy and Deal Making

  • Own vendor relationships across all categories, dietary, medical supplies, linen, pest control, pharmaceutical, office supplies, and more. Identify gaps in our vendor coverage and proactively build solutions. Negotiate direct contracts when indirect options fall short. Evaluate when to go direct versus leveraging existing GPO agreements. Forge creative deals, referral arrangements, preferred pricing structures, category exclusives, and vendor-to-vendor connections.

RFP and Bid Management

  • Lead structured, professional bidding processes for new and existing clients. Gather comprehensive data, negotiate directly with competing vendors, and deliver well-supported recommendations. Manage competitive bids from initiation through vendor selection.

Pricing Audits and Compliance

  • Proactively verify that contracted pricing is honored across all vendor agreements through systematic audits. Ensure the savings we promise clients are the savings they actually receive on every invoice. Renegotiate improved pricing with vendors using real performance data and competitive benchmarks.

Client Support and Onboarding

  • Partner with our sales team to ensure they are never left without a procurement answer. When we need to negotiate deviated pricing to win an opportunity, you get it done. Support every new client rollout by managing vendor transitions, identifying immediate savings opportunities, and leveraging portfolio volume for better pricing. Coordinate vendor setup, account activation, and go-live readiness for new facility acquisitions.

Vendor Engagement and Issue Resolution

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all vendor-related purchasing issues. Improve response times, resolve escalations, and maintain consistent professional engagement. Maintain regular contact with all active vendors to strengthen relationships and stay ahead of market changes.

Team Leadership and Scaling

  • Build and lead a procurement support team including client-facing procurement associates. Develop processes and playbooks that allow the department to scale without bottlenecking around one person. You are building a department, not just filling a role.

Business Development Through Vendor Relationships

  • Originate new vendor partnerships that benefit our member network. The best version of this role generates revenue, through internal vendor-to-vendor connections, referral arrangements, and category deals that Prime Source did not have before you walked in the door.

About you:

Required

  • 3+ years of experience in procurement, purchasing, vendor management, or strategic sourcing
  • Strong negotiation skills with a track record of delivering measurable cost savings
  • Vendor relationship skills, people know you, take your calls, and want to do business with you
  • Business development instinct to see a gap and fill it, not by selling to customers, but by making vendor deals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with the ability to manage multiple vendor relationships simultaneously
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and follow-through capabilities
  • Leadership experience or the clear readiness to build and lead a small, growing team
  • Ability to operate independently without needing everything handed to you

Preferred

  • Experience in healthcare, long-term care, or post-acute care industries
  • Familiarity with GPO contract structures and contract admin fee economics
  • Experience with Salesforce or similar CRM platforms
  • Background in vendor performance tracking, reporting, and business reviews
  • Comfort with both local and national vendor ecosystems

Not sure you meet every qualification? Studies show that diverse applicants often hesitate to apply unless they check every box. At Buyers Edge Platform, we value authenticity and inclusion-if you're excited about the role, we encourage you to apply. You might be exactly who we're looking for!

What's in this for you:

  • Great benefits from day one. We offer medical, dental, vision, FSA, company-paid life insurance, and more-plus a 401(k) with company match.
  • Grow with us. Enjoy strong training, development, and competitive pay.
  • Work-life balance. Our flexible PTO policy lets you take time when you need it-no accrual required.
