Job description

Job Title:   English/Language Arts Instructional Leader (Grades 6-12)
Position:   Administration
Reports To:   Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, JMMS/ EHHS/ East Haven Academy Principals

This position is full-time.  The salary and benefits associated with this position are outlined in the current East Haven Administrators & Supervisors contract.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Education for English/Language Arts; Masters preferred
  • Minimum of six (6) years successful teaching experience with demonstrated teacher-
    leadership skills
  • Intermediate Supervision and Evaluation Certification (092) and one or more of the
    following: English (015); Reading and Language Arts Consultant (097)


Priority Experience:

  • Supporting Special Education and content area teachers to build interdisciplinary and
    differentiated classroom experiences
  • Comprehensive understanding and experience of NEASC standards and accreditation process
  • Knowledge of current research and resources related to integration of technology, blended-
    learning environments, district and site-based goals, professional growth, learning
    development of adult learners, and group facilitation and change processes

  • Extensive knowledge and demonstrated success in working with state and national standards
    and grade level expectations/progressions
  • Implementing research-based instructional practices and a variety of assessment tools and
    experience facilitating collaborative analysis of student data
  • Strong understanding/knowledge of the science of reading, effective instructional practices in
    reading and writing, including connections to other content areas (cross-curricular
    connections)


Preferred Experience:

  • Test coordination and industry recognized credentials
  • Knowledge and experience effectively implementing a multi-tiered system of support related
    for middle school & high school students
  • Interest/experience with dual credit and career pathways


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate well with a variety of stakeholders; demonstrate and maintain productive and
    positive interpersonal skills, consult and facilitate groups of individuals, communicate
    effectively with teachers, principals, parents, students, and instructional aides

  • Work closely with district and building administration to coordinate and implement the
    work and components of professional learning communities
  • Supervise and Evaluation of the 6-12 English/Language Arts Department
  • Plan/Facilitate department and curriculum meetings at the grade 6-12 level
  • Share in strategic improvement efforts inclusive of planning, monitoring, and adjusting
    departmental priorities to achieve school improvement goals
  • Develop curriculum and assessments that align with district initiatives
  • Oversee implementation of curriculum (including review and revision), high quality
    instructional practices and effective assessment of students and revise/address issues or
    mobilize resources as appropriate

  • Create, monitor and adjust budget for 6-12 English/Language Arts Department needs and
    ordering
  • Scheduling of English/Language Arts Departments
  • Assist in the organization and administration of state testing, such as iReady, Smarter
    Balanced, PSAT, SAT
  • Utilize creative solutions for implementing on-site school-based staff development
  • Manage time, schedule and execution of multiple projects effectively and within
    deadlines in order to maximize teacher learning
  • Collaborate with Assistant Superintendent, Principals, and other instructional leaders to
    design and implement Professional Development programs as related to district and
    school goals

  • Any other duties assigned by the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, or building
    Principals
